Xiaomi launches 12 kg Mijia washing machine with top opening, integration with HyperOS Connect, and extremely aggressive pricing in China.
Xiaomi has decided to further expand its presence in the home appliance sector and officially introduced in China the Mijia Wave Wheel Washing Machine 12kg Smart Edition, a top-loading washing machine that quickly caught attention for its extremely low price for the offered package. The model was launched for 1,099 yuan, equivalent to approximately R$ 808 in direct conversion, without Brazilian taxes, shipping, importation, or resale margin. The launch was initially announced by Xiaomi in the Chinese market and covered by technology-specialized outlets, including Canaltech.
The product is particularly noteworthy because it uses a format extremely familiar to Brazilian consumers: the classic top-loading washer, popularly known in Brazil as “top load.”
Xiaomi bets on an extremely popular model in the Brazilian market
While many premium manufacturers have strongly focused on front-load machines, Xiaomi chose precisely a format that remains extremely dominant in many emerging markets.

The new Mijia uses a vertical structure with a top lid and a capacity of 12 kg, a range considered relatively high for domestic use. This type of configuration is usually valued for:
- ease of use;
- greater loading convenience;
- quick cycles;
- and lower operational cost.
Xiaomi clearly tries to combine this traditional format with smart features typical of the brand’s ecosystem.
Model uses Direct Drive motor
According to information released by Xiaomi, the machine uses a direct drive motor (Direct Drive). This system eliminates traditional internal belts and typically offers:
- less vibration;
- quieter operation;
- less mechanical wear;
- and greater energy efficiency.
Direct Drive motors already appear in premium models from global manufacturers like LG and Samsung, especially in washers aimed at quieter operation and greater durability.
HyperOS Connect transforms the machine into a smart device
Another important highlight of the Mijia Wave Wheel Washing Machine 12kg Smart Edition is the integration with Xiaomi’s HyperOS Connect ecosystem. The machine can be connected to the brand’s app and allows:
- remote monitoring;
- cycle scheduling;
- notifications;
- smartphone control;
- and integration with other smart home devices.
Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its home automation strategy, connecting:
- televisions;
- robot vacuums;
- air conditioners;
- purifiers;
- refrigerators;
- and now smart washers within the same system.
Xiaomi promises advanced sanitization system
According to materials released at the launch and reproduced by the Chinese press, the machine has cycles aimed at advanced clothing sanitization. Canaltech highlights that Xiaomi mentions:
- elimination of up to 99.99% of bacteria;
- and total removal of mites in certain specific cycles.
I couldn’t confirm directly in the official material found from Xiaomi the exact percentage of 99.99% for bacteria, so this data should be treated as information reproduced by the specialized coverage of the launch. However, the focus on advanced sanitization really appears as one of the pillars of the new Mijia line.

12 kg capacity puts model above many compact washers
Another relevant detail is the relatively high capacity for the price range. With 12 kg, the machine can handle:
- bedding;
- towels;
- bulky items;
- and larger loads in a single cycle.
This puts the model above many compact washers sold in emerging markets. Perhaps the most viral point was precisely the extremely aggressive price. Even offering:
- smart connectivity;
- Direct Drive motor;
- HyperOS integration;
- 12 kg capacity;
- and advanced sanitation proposal,
the machine was launched for just over R$ 800 in direct conversion. Naturally, the value would change completely if the product were officially sold in Brazil due to:
- taxes;
- logistics;
- certifications;
- importation;
- and commercial margin.
Even so, the launch drew attention precisely for showing how Chinese manufacturers are pressuring the global home appliance market.
Xiaomi is entering sectors dominated by traditional giants
For decades, the washing machine market was mainly dominated by:
- Electrolux;
- Brastemp;
- Consul;
- LG;
- Samsung;
- Panasonic;
- and Whirlpool.
Now, companies originally focused on technology have started to aggressively enter this sector using:
- smart integration;
- digital ecosystems;
- automation;
- and extremely competitive pricing.
Xiaomi has been accelerating exactly this strategy.
The company wants to transform appliances into connected products
Xiaomi’s offensive shows how appliances are beginning to follow a path similar to that of smartphones. Today, Chinese manufacturers already treat washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners as smart devices integrated into a larger digital ecosystem.
And the new Mijia Wave Wheel Washing Machine 12kg Smart Edition may be one of the clearest examples of this: a “Brazilian-style” machine reinterpreted with connectivity, automation, and technology to try to compete in a market traditionally controlled by historical white goods brands.
