An Accident Involving a Rare Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Valued at US$ 3.6 Million Revealed the Extremely High Maintenance Cost of These Hypercars, Where Even a Headlight Can Cost the Same as a New Porsche 911

The cost of maintaining a hypercar goes far beyond the purchase price. In the case of a Bugatti Chiron, a simple collision can result in damages equivalent to the price of a new supercar. This was the case for content creator Alex Gonzalez, who crashed his Chiron Pur Sport into the back of a small pickup truck in Miami.

The damaged model is a rare example of the Chiron Pur Sport, valued at US$ 3.6 million, around R$ 19.8 million.

However, the estimated repair cost may exceed US$ 440,000 — equivalent to R$ 2.4 million.

Parts That Cost the Same as Supercars

Influencer Matt Armstrong, known for rebuilding damaged supercars, visited the vehicle to assess the damage.

He revealed that the cost of the parts is almost unbelievable. Just the pair of headlights for the Chiron costs US$ 174,000, enough to buy a Porsche 911 Carrera in Brazil.

The carbon fiber fenders are also valued at US$ 174,000 per pair, while the front grille surround, in a horseshoe shape, costs more than US$ 93,000.

These numbers show how steep the price of exclusivity is in a limited production car, with only 60 units manufactured worldwide.

Bugatti’s Strict Policy

Even though the carbon monocoque chassis only suffered minor damage, the repair is not simple.

Bugatti imposes strict rules for any structural repairs. After the insurance company assessed the accident, the manufacturer determined that the car should be sent to France, where it would be restored exclusively by the factory.

Additionally, the French automaker blocked the sale of structural and safety parts, as the airbags were deployed. No independent workshop is authorized to carry out this type of repair.

Total Loss and Uncertain Destination

With the extremely high costs and restrictions imposed by the brand, the insurance company opted to declare a total loss. Thus, the Chiron Pur Sport was sent to auction in its current condition.

Meanwhile, the owner continues to pay the car’s financing — a monthly installment of US$ 70,000, about R$ 385,000.

Controversies and Extreme Performance

This is not the first controversy involving the same vehicle. Earlier this year, Gonzalez was criticized after appearing in a video climbing on the carbon fiber rear wing of the Pur Sport, causing costly and unnecessary damage.

The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is equipped with a W16 8.0-liter quad-turbo engine, capable of producing 1,500 horsepower.

The model differs from its predecessors by being 19 kg lighter, having recalibrated transmission, and a stiffer suspension — 65% at the front and 33% at the rear.

Launched in 2020, the Pur Sport was created to deliver more agility and improved aerodynamics, reinforcing its title as one of the most sophisticated hypercars in the world.
