Expectations surrounding Apple’s first flexible smartphone gained new contours on Monday, May 4, 2026. A “hands-on” video published by the Unbox Therapy channel presented a detailed mockup of what the iPhone Fold should be.

Although the unit is a fictional replica made of plastic and magnets, without functional hardware, it serves to demonstrate the real dimensions and portability the device will have in everyday life.

This leak, complemented by informant Lewis Hilsenteger, reinforces rumors that Apple will announce the model later in 2026. The project seems to focus on a device that functions as a mobile productivity hub, possibly receiving the commercial name “iPhone Ultra”.

The innovative, square shape of the iPhone Fold

The prototype’s design breaks current foldable market standards by adopting square proportions when closed. While most manufacturers use more elongated formats, Apple seems to be betting on a wider and more symmetrical aesthetic.

According to measurements taken on the mockup, the dimensions of the folded device are:

  • Height: 117 mm.
  • Width: 84.27 mm.
  • Thickness: 11.02 mm, excluding the camera module.
  • Camera module: The rear component is large and, according to rumors, houses two 48 MP sensors.

This structure was compared to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, showing that the iPhone Fold is visibly squarer than Google’s competitor.

Furthermore, the mockup already positions elements such as the USB-C input, physical buttons, and sound outputs.

User experience: From smartphone to tablet

When the device is opened, the intention of the exotic format becomes clear: to offer a screen experience close to that of a conventional tablet. Unlike models like the Galaxy Z Fold, which have narrower internal screens, the iPhone Fold’s proportion aims to ensure greater comfort for media consumption and multitasking.

This characteristic puts Apple’s new phone on a direct collision course with Samsung’s expected Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, which is also expected to explore wider internal screens. Thus, Apple’s proposal seems to be to deliver a definitive hybrid that eliminates the need to carry an iPad in certain situations.

Launch forecast and market cost

Despite all the technology and revolutionary design, access to the iPhone Fold will not be cheap. The forecast is that the launch will occur at the end of 2026, with prices that reflect the product’s premium positioning.

It is speculated that prices in the United States will range between:

  • Minimum price: US$ 2,000.
  • Maximum price: US$ 2,400.

In a direct conversion to the Brazilian reality, based on the May 2026 exchange rate and without including taxes, the value would be around R$ 12 thousand. Therefore, the device should be one of the most expensive launches in the brand’s history, consolidating itself as a luxury item and technological innovation.
