Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Supports Donald Trump’s Initiative for Europe to Stop Buying Russian Oil, Highlighting Strategic and Energy Impact in the Region.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reiterated the importance of supporting Donald Trump’s recommendation for Europe to halt its purchase of Russian oil, as reported this Thursday, February 2. According to Zelensky, ignoring this appeal would show a “lack of strategic vision.”
The statement occurred during the European Political Community Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Zelensky met with over 40 leaders and held bilateral meetings, including one with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Direct Appeal to Europe and Allies
Zelensky emphasized the need to heed the American warning. “We must also support President Trump’s call to stop buying Russian oil here in Europe. It is short-sighted to go against the U.S. And Hungarians need to hear this clearly,” said the Ukrainian president.

He further reinforced that energy from the United States and other partners can meet European demand and fill the gap left by Russian oil, expressing confidence in the ability to replace supply.
Ongoing Pressure from Trump on Russia
Donald Trump has reiterated that Europe should stop buying oil from Russia, arguing that this action strengthens Moscow and weakens the Western negotiating position. Last month, he intensified pressure on NATO allies, emphasizing that continuing to buy Russian oil “significantly weakens” bargaining power against Russia.
The joint position of Zelensky and Trump highlights the ongoing diplomatic effort to reduce European dependence on Russian oil while reinforcing the role of the U.S. as a strategic energy supplier.
