Fuels: Diesel Price Increased by 36.35%
According to Irani, fuel transporters and petroleum derivatives will not refuel and will remain on strike until there is a response from the governor of MG regarding the reduction of ICMS on diesel.
In the view of the president of Sindtanque-MG, high fuel prices only reflect the ICMS rates charged by states. The statement does not take into account the effects of the dollar’s appreciation against the real, the price alignment of Petrobras with imports, and currency issues.
During the last 12 months up to July, the price of diesel increased by 36.35%, according to the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the official inflation calculated by IBGE. In Belo Horizonte (MG), the variation was 35.36%.
Transporters’ Strike Has No Set End Date
Regarding the actions of fuel transporters on this Tuesday (7), the president of Sindtanque-MG reiterated that it is a peaceful demonstration that will be part of the actions of supporters of the policies proposed by President Jair Bolsonaro across the country.
The president also stated that the strike will be just the beginning of the movement and has no forecast for ending, and admitted that there will be impacts on airports and fuel stations.
In response, the Government of MG clarified that the ICMS rates on diesel have not changed recently. According to the Government, the last changes were made in 2012, when the ICMS on diesel increased from 12% to 15%, and in January 2018, when the ICMS on gasoline rose from 29% to 31%.
