Partnership Between Energisa and the MS Government Plans to Bring Electricity from Renewable Sources to Residents in Pantanal Areas
The Energisa Group and the Government of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul have a cooperative project aimed at providing electricity via renewable sources to more than 5,000 people living in areas of the biome in Pantanal by 2022. According to the project, called “Ilumina Pantanal,” by July of this year, the plan will deliver energy to over 2,000 local consumers.

According to Governor Reinaldo Azambuja: “We have made a broad partnership. By next year, we will serve large, medium, and small properties, in addition to riverside dwellers and traditional residents of the Pantanal region. It is a program that encompasses everyone. There will be 90,000 square kilometers of new coverage. We are talking about a territorial area that is almost the size of Portugal or larger than the combined countries of Denmark and the Netherlands.”
Energisa ensures that electricity users will receive the microsystem for photovoltaic solar energy generation, and the excess energy will be stored in the battery. The president-director of Energisa Mato Grosso do Sul, Marcelo Vinhaes, stated that “Universalizing access to energy in such an important region for sustainable Brazilian development is a significant step in the history of the Energisa Group. To achieve this goal, we invest in innovation and sustainability, creating a pioneering solution that will contribute to improving the quality of life of the local population and the socioeconomic growth of the Pantanal, while preserving the fauna and flora of the biome.”

Investments:
In total, the Energisa Group will invest around 134 million reais in the plan, which will cover a population of 90,000 square kilometers. The optimistic project will serve residents in the cities of Corumbá, Aquidauana, Coxim, Ladário, Porto Murtinho, Rio Verde, and Miranda.
The plan entered a pilot phase in 2018, serving 23 consumer units. These locations received solar energy and energy storage systems, serving 100 people at the time.
