Ipem-SP Publishes Recommendations for Drivers to Monitor Refueling, Check the Pump, and Request an Invoice at Fuel Stations.
The Institute of Weights and Measures of the State of São Paulo (Ipem-SP) has released a guide with recommendations for drivers refueling at fuel stations.
The aim is to guide consumers and ensure greater safety at the time of purchase.
Monitor Refueling
Ipem-SP recommends that drivers get out of the car and monitor the entire process.

It is necessary to check if the nozzle connected matches the requested fuel and if the pump starts at zero.
In addition, the price displayed on the pump should be the same as advertised, as different payment methods may result in different amounts.
Another recommendation is to wait for the start of the refueling and remain attentive until the end. Only after completion should the driver approach the cashier to pay.
Verification and References
If in doubt, consumers can request the verification of the pump with the 20-liter calibrator, equipment mandatory at all stations.
This container must be sealed and empty, without materials that alter the volume.
The guide also suggests using previous refuelings at trusted stations as a reference.
This is because the tank volume indicated in the vehicle manual may have errors of up to 20% compared to the actual capacity.
Safe Practices
According to the institute, it is important to refuel until the automatic shut-off of the nozzle. The attendant should not force more fuel into the tank.
The driver should also request the invoice, checking if the amount and liters match what went into the tank.
These measures help avoid losses and provide greater transparency to the consumer.
