The highway, an important link between Mato Grosso and the ports of the Rio Tapajós in Pará, began construction in the 1970s but was only completed over the past year. The work was carried out by two engineering and construction battalions of the Army, resulting in the paving of the last 51 kilometers that were missing.

The project ensures the flow of the grain harvest from the center of Brazil, especially from the state of Mato Grosso, to the ports of Pará, with a focus on Miritituba. For the completion of this section, the Federal Government invested around R$ 158 million.

The minister stated that the work on BR-163/PA has already transformed the lives of the thousands of truck drivers who travel the highway. “We know this is just the beginning of a cycle that is bound to generate more benefits for the region,” he emphasized.

Tarcísio also recalled the difficulties truck drivers faced in February 2019, when they were stranded on the highway for about 10 days. “The truck drivers believed in the Federal Government. We are writing history! This is a time to celebrate, and tomorrow will be a time to work,” he said.

“I promised truck drivers back then, on behalf of President Jair Bolsonaro, and I reaffirmed the commitment to complete the paving of BR-163/PA by the end of 2019,” the minister recalled. “The president’s team knew what to do to complete the work. And we did it!” he concluded.

Truck drivers who faced queues and mud on BR-163/PA can celebrate! With the paving of the section between SINOP/MT and Miritituba/PA completed in November 2019, traveling through the region has become faster and safer!

With the completion, everyone benefits! The producer pays less for cargo transportation, and the truck driver can make more trips in less time, earning more at the end of the month!

Additionally, according to the Pró-Logística Movement, which represents the producers who pay for the cargo transported by truck drivers, it is estimated that vehicle and cargo movement in this section will increase by about 30% in 2020.
