The problem arose when the actual amount reached the hotel — much lower than expected.
By the time they identified the flaw, the suspect had already enjoyed the stay and left the location.
This delay in detection allowed him to repeat the scheme multiple times without immediate interruption.
Thus, the hacker could enjoy high-end services practically for free.
Loss Exceeds 20 Thousand Euros
The investigations began when a booking platform identified suspicious transactions.
Although the transactions appeared legitimate at first, internal audits found discrepancies in the amounts paid.
According to the police, the young man repeated the method several times.
In just one of the affected hotels, the loss exceeded 20,000 euros, about 122,000 reais.
In addition to the nightly rates, he also consumed extra products and services, which further increased the financial impact of the crime.
Technical Investigation Led To Arrest
Authorities classified the case as highly complex due to the way the suspect structured the attack.
According to investigators, he developed the scheme specifically to exploit a little-known vulnerability.
Every action in the digital environment leaves traces, and this allowed the police to identify the suspect.
On February 18, agents located and arrested the young man in Madrid, ending the scheme he repeatedly carried out systematically.
