The Brazilian Steel Giant Invests in a Singapore Startup for Graphene Production and Initiates Research in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro

CSN Inova, the innovation arm of CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional), announced that it has made a financial investment in 2D, a startup from Singapore. The company identified graphene (a 2D material composed of monoatomic layers of carbon and derived from graphite, which has the third largest proven reserve in Brazil) as a key material in its steel innovation strategy.

Graphene is a powerful additive that can yield significant results and add substantial value to products, such as steel, even in small quantities. CSN is launching a dedicated working group for graphene at the Research Center facilities in the Presidente Vargas Mill (UPV). The team will act as a center of expertise in graphene application and will foster the development of solutions in energy, steel, cement, and iron ore.
