Carbonor Opens New Industrial Hub in Camaçari, Bahia and Creates New Job Opportunities for Local Professionals
Carbonor, a chemical industry and currently the largest manufacturer of sodium bicarbonate in Latin America, has inaugurated a new facility in the Industrial Hub of Camaçari, Bahia. The new industrial hub has an annual production capacity of 27 thousand tons of carbon dioxide, 30 thousand tons of calcium oxide, or 34 thousand tons of hydrated lime.
The new unit ensures that the largest producer of sodium bicarbonate in Latin America has complete independence from external raw material supply of carbon dioxide, which the company previously depended on from the former Fafen supply.

Capacity and Competitive Advantage of the New Industrial Hub Camaçari – BA
The expansion of the new Carbonor Industrial Hub increased its production capacity by 75%, in addition to creating 100 new job openings for local professionals. In total, the hub has generated around 600 job opportunities, of which 150 are direct and 450 are indirect.
The new Industrial Hub Camaçari, Bahia, has already produced 750 tons of carbon dioxide and 800 tons of calcium oxide in its first month of operation.
According to the company president, Paulo Sérgio França Cavalcanti, “the expectation is to produce 18 thousand tons of carbon dioxide in the first year, which will be consumed within the company for the production of sodium bicarbonate, in addition to 20 thousand tons of calcium oxide to be offered to the market.”
According to the executive, Carbonor is already planning to add a second furnace to the new unit. The expectation is that the company will double its efficiency with the new project, reaching a production capacity of 54 thousand tons of carbon dioxide, 60 thousand of calcium oxide, or 64 thousand of hydrated lime, also offering carbon dioxide to the market and adding value to lime by supplying hydrated lime.
