With Agility, Technology, and the Title of Cheapest Scooter with Smart Key, the New Yamaha Scooter for 2025 Is a Smart Choice, but the Hard Suspension and the New Hybrid Version Spark Debate.

The new Yamaha scooter for 2025 is the Fluo 125, which hit the market as a smart proposal for urban mobility. Lightweight, agile, and featuring a technology package that sets it apart from the competition, it has established itself as one of the best options in the segment. Its main attraction is being the cheapest scooter in Brazil to offer features such as the smart key (Smart Key) and ABS brakes.

However, the new Yamaha scooter for 2025 comes with a complexity: the existence of two versions with different engines, a standard one and a new hybrid version. Additionally, a recurring criticism of its suspension raises an important question: do technology and agility compensate for the lack of comfort on Brazilian roads?

Two Models in One Year: What Changes in the Fluo 125 for 2025?

The year 2025 marks a transition for the Fluo 125. Therefore, the consumer needs to pay attention when purchasing, as there are two versions being sold as “2025”.

The Fluo ABS “Legacy” (2024/2025): this is the version that established the fame of the model. Equipped with a 9.5 hp engine, it is known for its good performance and balance, with a suggested price of R$ 15,290. The average consumption is around 44 km/l.

The Fluo ABS Hybrid (2025/2026): launched in January 2025, this version introduces a mild hybrid system. The engine has been recalibrated to deliver 8.3 hp, features smartphone connectivity, and the price has increased to R$ 16,690. Being about 12% more efficient, the average consumption rises to approximately 49 km/l.

The Cheapest Scooter in Brazil with Smart Key and ABS Brakes

The big differential of the Yamaha Fluo 125 lies in its equipment package. It is the most affordable scooter in the Brazilian market to offer the smart key (Smart Key) system as standard, which allows the bike to be started without taking the key out of your pocket, a highly convenient feature.

In addition, it comes with front disc brakes with ABS, which prevent the wheel from locking during sudden braking, a crucial safety item that its main competitor, the Honda Elite 125, does not have.

The Hard Suspension That Doesn’t Tolerate Brazilian Roads

Despite the technology, the Fluo 125 has a chronic weak point that is heavily criticized by its owners: the excessively stiff suspension. The setup, with 90 mm of travel, was calibrated for agility but ends up transmitting the impacts of potholes and asphalt irregularities too harshly.

Reports from owners are common, describing “dry hits” and discomfort, especially on poorly maintained roads. For many, this is the main negative point of the scooter and a factor that can be decisive at the time of purchase.

The Controversy of the New Hybrid Engine

The arrival of the hybrid version of the new Yamaha scooter for 2025 sparked debate. The system, called “Power Assist”, uses a small electric motor to assist the combustion engine during starts, promising a fuel savings of up to 12%.

However, this savings came with a 12.6% loss in engine power. For many users and experts, this trade-off does not seem advantageous in a bike that was already economical, raising suspicions that the innovation is more of a marketing ploy than a real benefit for consumers.

Who Is the New Yamaha Scooter the Right Choice For?

The Yamaha Fluo 125 is an excellent option, but with an important caveat. It is the ideal choice for riders who primarily ride on good quality asphalt and value technology, the practicality of a helmet compartment, and the safety of ABS.

For this profile, the standard version with 9.5 hp, if still available in stores, represents the best cost-benefit ratio. The hybrid version is recommended for those who are keen on having the latest technology and don’t mind the slight loss of power. In both cases, one must be aware and willing to cope with the firm suspension, the main characteristic of the design.

Não vale a pena. Tenho uma. Não serve para as ruas com asfalto irregular nas cidades do Brasil. Pula demais. O material do banco é ruim. O banco da minha já descosturou. Tive que levar no capoteiro. A minha tá na garantia, mas não cobre o banco.
