Despite the oil crisis due to the coronavirus, the Brazilian government announced yesterday investments for the Brazilian naval sector of 5.6 billion reais, which was approved by the Merchant Navy Fund. The prioritized projects refer to the construction, conversion, repair, and modernization of port support vessels, maritime support, and cargo, as well as support for the construction of shipyards.

In addition, Petrobras also announced yesterday morning that the FPSOs ordered by the company for the pre-salt of the Santos Basin will have 25% local content, where some modules will be built at the Brasfels shipyard and at EBR.

NDT Career

The career is promising, and professionals can work in various areas: in petrochemicals in refineries, gas pipelines, and oil pipelines; in naval at shipyards, in the construction of platforms and tankers; in the base industry as suppliers of plates, paints, valves, etc.; in automotive as auto parts, manufacturers, and foundries; in aerospace as airlines and aircraft maintenance companies, and others like nuclear, electrical, paper, and cellulose, biodiesel, etc.

Brazil faces challenges due to the lack of specialized technicians in the NDT career to work. There is a shortage of NDT inspectors, welding, pipelines, dimensional, and others. With the lack of these specialized professionals, companies end up looking for specialists outside Brazil.
