ABM Week: Central Discussion on Sustainability in Industry
ABM Week, one of the leading technical-scientific and business meetings in Latin America, is organized annually by the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy, Materials, and Mining – ABM. In 2024, the event will take place from September 3 to September 5, in the city of São Paulo – SP, at the Pro Magno Event Center.
During the three days of the event, there will be technical sessions from 14 different events that make up the week, in addition to other attractions such as leaders forum, plenaries, round tables, panels, and special sessions. Various current and relevant topics will be debated, with a special focus on environmental sustainability. Issues such as the decarbonization of steelmaking and mining, energy transition, and circular economy will be thoroughly discussed. The event will feature the presence of business leaders, specialists, academics, and renowned students.
Program Highlights: Sustainability and Technological Innovation
Aligned with the celebration of ABM’s 80th anniversary, the Leaders Forum will be held on September 3. This forum will feature leaders from the main steel and mining companies in Brazil. Confirmed speakers include Gustavo Werneck, CEO of Gerdau; Jorge Luiz Ribeiro de Oliveira, CEO of ArcelorMittal Flat Steel and Vice President of ArcelorMittal; Marcelo Chara, CEO of Usiminas; and Ricardo Lima, CEO of CBMM. These executives will share sustainable strategies that their companies are adopting to promote renewal and sustainability, ensuring their longevity.
On the first day of the event, a roundtable on circular economy is scheduled, along with discussions on career development in the mining-metallurgical sector during Enemet and a lecture referencing the association’s 80th anniversary on how to be young at 80.
Disruptive Technologies in Focus for Decarbonization
On September 4, the program will include the Plenary ‘Disruptive Technologies in Search of Decarbonization’. In this panel, prominent executives will discuss how innovative technologies can be applied at each stage of the production process for greater sustainability. Confirmed speakers include Rolando Paolone, CTO of Danieli; Norbert Petermaier, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Sales at Primetals; Itamar Resende, CEO of Boston Metal Brazil; and Paul Tockert, Executive Vice President of SMS/Paul Wurth Group.
