Discover The Most Valuable Coin Collection In The World, Valued At US$ 10 Million. These Rarities Were Prohibited From Being Sold For 100 Years.

The most valuable coin collection in the world, which includes around 20,000 items, will begin auctioning this month after a prohibition on any transactions involving the items that lasted over 100 years. According to CNN, the heir to the collection, which features the most valuable coins in the world, banknotes, and medals accumulated over more than six decades, was butter magnate Lars Emil Bruun.

Understand Why The Most Expensive Coins In The World Could Not Be Sold

The Dane passed away in 1923, but his heirs were prohibited from selling the items until 2023 due to a clause left by Bruun in his will stating that the collection should be maintained as an emergency reserve for the national collection of Denmark, in case it was destroyed, and could only benefit his descendants after 100 years, if all went well with the official Danish collection.

Bruun made this requirement for his most valuable coin collection in the world after witnessing the destruction caused by the First World War, which made him fear a potential bombing or looting of the Danish Royal Collection of Coins and Medals.

The 100-year period ended last year, but the first set of the collection with the most valuable coins in the world will only be auctioned on September 14, by the rare coin auction house, Stack’s Bowers.

The Most Valuable Coin Collection In The World Is Worth Over US$ 10 Million

More than 280 lots will be sold, which include the most expensive coins in the world made of gold and silver from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, dated from the late 15th century to the last years of Bruun’s life, valued at over US$ 10 million in total. The starting bids may range from 900 euros to 250,000 euros, depending on the coin.

According to Stack’s Bowers, the entire collection of the most valuable coins in the world was insured for 500 million Danish crowns (US$ 72.5 million). The treasure of the most expensive coins in the world and medals will be sold over several years through the coin auction house and dealer Stack’s Bowers. The first tranche of the collection is scheduled to be sold this year.

One of the lots from the most valuable coin collection in the world that attracts the most attention is a gold coin among the oldest in Scandinavia, which may sell for up to R$ 3.7 million. In total, the estimated value for the first round of sales is just over R$ 71.4 million.

What Is The Rarest And Most Expensive Coin In The World?

The rare Double Eagle coin from 1933, auctioned for US$ 18.87 million, is the most valuable in the world. Initially, 445,000 units were produced, but most were destroyed due to a presidential order in the US. Only a few of the most valuable coins in the world escaped destruction and became coveted items for collectors.

The last coin was sold in 2021, surpassing the value of luxury cars. This coin was sold for US$ 18.87 million, equivalent to R$ 93 million, at an auction at Sotheby’s in New York. For comparison, a luxury car like the Bugatti La Voiture Noire costs around US$ 11 million.

The most expensive coins in the world feature, on one side, an image of a woman personifying liberty and, on the other, an eagle in flight. The designs were created by American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
