Atlas Agro Will Establish a BRL 4.3 Billion Plant in Minas Gerais; Opening Planned for 2027
UBERABA – Shortly after the Senate Started Discussing Policies for the Implementation of Green Hydrogen in Brazil, the Uberaba community in Minas Gerais celebrated the recent granting of a public land of about 1 million square meters to Atlas Agro. The approval from the Uberaba City Council marks a significant advancement for the company, which plans to build an innovative fertilizer factory powered by green hydrogen in the area, located in the Industrial District III.
Opportunity Arises from Incomplete Project
Originally, this granted land was intended for the installation of an ammonia plant that was never completed. The government’s discussion about auctioning the property, estimated at BRL 16.8 million, ended with the decision to transfer it to the city hall.
With the grant in hand, Atlas Agro gains the necessary legal certainty to begin its engineering projects this year. The company plans to start construction in 2024, with completion expected by mid-2027, in an estimated investment of about BRL 4.3 billion.

Additionally, the city council granted tax incentives to Atlas Agro. These benefits include a ten-year exemption from property tax for the land, exemption from the ISSQN tax on engineering services, and a reduced tax rate of 2% to be collected by the company or by third parties contracted by it.
Green Hydrogen Revolutionizes Fertilizer Production
The Atlas Agro plant will use electricity generated 100% from renewable sources, such as solar and wind, to power the electrolysis process that splits hydrogen and oxygen in water.
With the use of green hydrogen, the company plans to produce green ammonia and zero-carbon nitrogen fertilizers. Once completed, the factory will have the capacity to produce 500,000 tons annually of fertilizers to supply local customers.
Rodrigo Santana, operations director of Atlas Agro, confirms that there are already several signed letters of interest for purchase and that agreements for the supply of zero-carbon nitrogen fertilizers will be finalized in the coming months. The company’s long-term vision includes the construction of six to eight similar factories across Brazil.
