Digital Solutions and Automation in Brazilian Mining
The order from BulkExpert includes a central digital solution and advanced automation for three yard machines at one port and eight yard machines at another (including autonomous and combined stackers and bucket wheel reclaimers (BW)).
“We are very pleased to receive this repeat order for the BulkExpert, as it is a clear indication of customer satisfaction with the current BulkExpert solution at their terminal stock yard in Southeast Asia, which has been operational for five years,” commented Mikko Tepponen, CDO at FLSmidth.

For 17 years, 60,000 Chinese workers secretly excavated 20 km of tunnels inside a mountain — the 79-meter cavern was intended to be a nuclear weapons factory, but it never became operational.
“The order is a clear vote of confidence in FLSmidth’s work during the feasibility stage and for our focus on high-performance and productive digital solutions.”
“As this was a complex and important project for the client, we worked especially closely and comprehensively with them to ensure perfect alignment in scheduling and implementation. This work will mean an increase in productivity without loss of output due to downtime,” commented Ole Knudsen, Head of Global Digital Product Line Management at FLSmidth.
Automation of the Brazilian Mining Industry Will Allow More Freedom in Iron Ore Exportation
The solution will provide several clear benefits to the client, including higher yield, greater efficiency, and guaranteed performance. An extended machine lifespan and reduced maintenance can also be expected due to less stress on the machinery.
The company’s solution will be fully integrated with the client’s own systems and will provide safer remote operations thanks to technical innovations such as an enhanced anti-collision system.
Elsewhere, quality management will track all material movements in the storage yard, while a sophisticated material blending control will reduce quality deviations, allowing the client to save valuable natural resources.
