Successful Partnership: Volkswagen and QuantumScape Achieve Remarkable Results in Solid-State Battery Development
Volkswagen is about to revolutionize the automotive industry with a significant achievement in the field of solid-state batteries. In partnership with QuantumScape, the automaker achieved an impressive milestone in developing batteries that promise to last much longer than traditional ones, according to Insideevs.
Tests conducted in German laboratories by PowerCo, a Volkswagen subsidiary dedicated to battery development, revealed that QuantumScape’s solid-state batteries exhibited only a 5% storage loss after 1,000 charge cycles. This means that an electric vehicle equipped with this technology could travel 500,000 km while maintaining 95% of its original capacity.
Market Preparation with Volkswagen’s New Solid-State Battery
The results achieved by the automaker far exceed initial expectations, which estimated a loss of 20% after 700 cycles for the technology to be considered market-ready. Frank Blome, head of PowerCo, expressed his satisfaction with the results, highlighting that this battery is a prelude to high-capacity accumulators, fast charging, and low wear over time.
