At The Ansa Factory, Petrobras Starts Production Of ARLA 32 And Symbolizes Industrial Resurgence Of The Unit In Paraná.

Petrobras advances in the reactivation of Ansa with the start of ARLA 32 production, a crucial product for reducing emissions in diesel vehicles. The resumption of the unit in Araucária reinforces the state-owned company’s expansion plan in the fertilizer sector and its environmental agenda.

ARLA 32 Production Marks Operational Return Of Ansa After Four Years

Araucária Nitrogenados S.A. (Ansa), a subsidiary of Petrobras, began the production of ARLA 32 this week at its unit located in the municipality of Araucária (PR).

This move marks the first productive activity of the factory since 2020, when its operations were halted.

With this, the Brazilian state-owned company begins to reactivate one of its main industrial facilities focused on the fertilizer and chemical input sectors.

The production of ARLA 32 is being carried out using urea supplied by Yara, with production made to order according to a commercial agreement established between the two companies.

This step represents the gradual return of Ansa’s operations and the strengthening of Petrobras’s presence in the segment of products aimed at environmental sustainability.

What Is ARLA 32 And Why Is It Essential?

ARLA 32 (Automotive Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a solution composed of urea and deionized water, used in diesel engines to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

The compound acts in the exhaust system of vehicles, converting pollutants into harmless substances such as water vapor and nitrogen.

The resumption of this production in Brazil, now led by Ansa, reduces dependence on imports and increases the national supply of a strategic product for sustainable road transport.

The Paraná factory has the capacity to produce up to 450 thousand m³ per year of ARLA 32, in addition to urea and ammonia.

Robust Investment And Gradual Return Of Ansa’s Operation

To enable the complete return of Ansa, Petrobras is investing approximately R$ 870 million, part of a larger plan that allocates R$ 6 billion to the fertilizer sector over the next five years.

The company’s expectation is that the factory will be operating fully by the beginning of the second semester of 2025.

In addition to ARLA 32, the plant has the capacity to produce 720 thousand tons of urea and 475 thousand tons of ammonia annually.

Located next to the Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), the unit is in the final phase of equipment maintenance, preparing to resume all its production fronts.

Petrobras Bets On Industrialization

According to Petrobras, the reactivation of Ansa goes beyond the resumption of a factory: it is a strategy to strengthen the national industry, create jobs, and diversify the company’s product portfolio.

The production of ARLA 32 is also a response to the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the transport sector.

William França, director of Industrial Processes at Petrobras, emphasizes that the return of operations represents a commitment to development and reducing dependence on imported inputs.

“We are investing in fertilizers based on technical and economic analyses. ARLA 32 adds environmental value to our portfolio,” he stated.

A Symbolic Milestone In The Resurgence

The president of Ansa, Demétrio Sheeny Coutinho, emphasized that the production of ARLA 32 symbolizes overcoming challenges and the beginning of a new phase.

“It’s more than a technical milestone. It’s a concrete signal that Ansa is back in action, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and the strengthening of the national industry,” he declared.

With the advancement of operations, Petrobras reaffirms its role in developing industrial solutions aligned with contemporary environmental demands and Brazil’s strategic independence in the fertilizer chain.
