The Largest Biogas Plant in the World Built by Raízen
The location of Raízen’s biogas plant was also chosen for being close to the major industrial centers in the state, generating energy close to local consumers and aiding the efficiency of the grid.
The biogas plant being inaugurated today, which will have Bolsonaro present, is the first in the country to generate clean energy produced from byproducts and inputs from sugarcane, such as filter cake and vinasse, which were previously considered waste after the sugar and ethanol production process.

Biogas
Biogas is a type of flammable gas produced from the mixture of carbon dioxide and methane through the action of fermenting bacteria on organic matter. Fermentation occurs at certain temperature, humidity, and acidity levels. This process occurs artificially through a piece of equipment called an anaerobic digester.
Methane itself is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, but the other gases have an unpleasant odor. Biogas is a renewable energy source; for this reason, it is considered a biogasoline.
President Bolsonaro Expected to Address Attendees
Finally, it is worth noting that the current project for Raízen’s biogas plant began in 2018 and has an immense capacity to supply up to 200,000 households; Raízen’s goal is to produce around 138,000 MWh per year.
Shortly after the presentation of the biogas plant, President Bolsonaro is expected to speak and then head to Porto Real in Rio de Janeiro, where he will participate on the 17th in the delivery of a replica of a sword of Duque de Caxias, one of the greatest patrons of the Brazilian Army.
