Project Provides for Complete Modernization of the Highway with Duplications, Marginal Roads, Bike Paths, and the Completion of the New Serra Climb in Minas and Rio.
The National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT) and the Federal Government will sign, this Thursday (10/2), the concession contract for BR-040/495/MG/RJ with the company Elovias, the winner of the auction.
The process was conducted by ANTT, in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, using the highest tariff discount as a criterion.
Investment Plan and Operational Benefits
The concessionaire’s proposal includes a broad package of works and improvements, totaling R$ 8.8 billion.

Driver who “holds” the left lane can receive a hefty fine and 4 points on their driver’s license even if they think they are going at the correct speed for the road.
These include duplications, implementation of additional lanes, construction of marginal roads, tunnels, and walkways, along with the completion of the New Serra Climb.
The concession will also provide benefits to users, such as the Discount for Frequent Users (DUF) and the option for automatic payment through vehicle identification tags.
Section Extension and Planned Works
The granted section is 218.9 km long, covering BR-040 from Juiz de Fora to the border with Rio de Janeiro, and from the border with Minas Gerais to the Trevo das Missões in Rio. It also includes BR-495/RJ, from Itaipava to the junction with BR-040/RJ.
The works include 13.44 km of duplications, 78.13 km of additional lanes, 11.7 km of bike paths, 32 bus stops, three tunnels, 12 walkways, one escape area, and five Operational Service Bases (BSOs).
User Service (SAUs) and a Stopping and Rest Area for professional drivers, among other infrastructure improvements, are also planned.
The concession marks an important step for the modernization of the road network between Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, focusing on increased safety and quality in land transport.
