Roadworks in the Central region of São Paulo advance with duplication, additional lanes, reinforced viaducts, and new grade-separated returns, in a package aimed at improving travel, increasing road safety, and strengthening corridors used by residents, drivers, and freight transport.

The Government of São Paulo delivered, on June 11, 2026, a package of roadworks worth R$ 343 million in the Central region of the state, with interventions on the Washington Luís Highway (SP-310) and SP-318, during the Caravana 3D agenda in São Carlos.

The announced package includes the duplication of 31 kilometers between Rincão and São Carlos, 9.84 kilometers of third lanes, four expanded and reinforced viaducts, and eight grade-separated returns, measures aimed at increasing road capacity and improving traffic flow.

The official agenda marked the inauguration of a phase of the capacity expansion of SP-310 and the unveiling of the plaque for the duplication of SP-318, according to information released by Agência SP, the official channel of the state government.

With these deliveries, the government claims to seek more road safety, better circulation in the served sections, and reinforcement in the connections used by drivers, residents, and freight transport passing through the Central region of São Paulo.

Works advance on SP-310 and SP-318

According to the government of São Paulo, 50% of the third lanes planned in the project were delivered on the Washington Luís Highway, in São Carlos, in addition to the expansion and reinforcement of four viaducts at points considered strategic for circulation in the urban and regional section.

This phase includes 9.84 kilometers of additional lanes in segments of the North and South tracks, with interventions in the devices located at kilometers 231.100, 232.900, and 234, according to data released by the São Paulo government.

For this set of improvements on SP-310, the total planned investment is R$ 150 million, an amount that also includes marginal roads, bike paths, walkways, and reinforcements in special art works, such as bridges, viaducts, and overpasses.

In a statement released by the state government, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas stated that the deliveries aim to improve safety, reduce travel time, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Central region.

Also according to the governor, the expansion of Washington Luís and the duplication of SP-318 have a direct relation to the routine of those who work, produce, and travel daily on these highways.

Duplication connects Rincão to São Carlos

Between kilometers 249 and 280 of SP-318, in the stretch between Rincão and São Carlos, the delivered project received R$ 193 million in investments and has a direct impact on São Carlos, Rincão, Américo Brasiliense, and Santa Lúcia.

The duplication adds 31 kilometers of road and includes two 3.60-meter lanes, as well as a 2.50-meter shoulder, a structure designed to improve circulation in an important regional connection.

Besides the new road configuration, the project includes eight grade-separated return devices, a solution used to organize access and crossings without requiring vehicles to directly cross the main highway flow.

According to the Government of São Paulo, the execution of the work generated 345 direct jobs and 102 indirect jobs, while the official estimate indicates that more than 304 thousand inhabitants will benefit from the duplication.

Road safety and freight transport

Although they are in the same delivery package, the interventions meet different needs of the regional road network and complement each other in an attempt to improve movement between urban areas, neighboring municipalities, and logistic corridors.

On SP-310, the capacity expansion seeks to better organize the coexistence between local traffic and long-distance flow, while SP-318 now has a duplicated road in a section used for regional travel.

The Secretary of Partnerships in Investments, Rafael Benini, stated that the works go beyond the physical expansion of the highways and have an effect on travel time, freight transport, safety, and regional mobility.

Due to the position of São Carlos and nearby municipalities, the Central region of the state concentrates significant connections between urban areas, production centers, and circulation axes, which increases the importance of interventions to expand capacity and reduce traffic conflicts.

Investments are part of SP pra Toda Obra

The deliveries are part of the SP pra Toda Obra program, presented by the state government as the largest modernization and improvement package of the São Paulo road system, with actions on public and concessioned highways.

The initiative gathers R$ 145 billion in investments, with works executed by DER and by concessionaires supervised by Artesp, within an agenda that combines ongoing interventions, completed deliveries, and structural improvements.

According to Agência SP, the program totals more than 4,300 projects and reaches 62,000 kilometers throughout the state, covering different regions and sections considered relevant for the circulation of people and goods.

In this context, the works on SP-310 and SP-318 appear as part of a broader front of modernization of the São Paulo network, focusing on safety, fluidity, and expansion of the operational capacity of the highways.

The 3D Caravan, the agenda in which the delivery took place, is an initiative of the São Paulo Government aimed at regional actions in the pillars of development, dignity, and dialogue, with coordination between the state government and municipalities.

Before arriving in São Carlos, the action had already passed through regions such as Barretos, Franca, Vale do Ribeira, Bauru, ABC, Alto Tietê, Ribeirão Preto, Campinas, Vale do Paraíba, São José do Rio Preto, Araçatuba, Marília, Sorocaba, Presidente Prudente, and Itapeva.
