Claudia Lira, Chemistry Professor, Explained on CNN Radio How Green Hydrogen Is Produced by Sustainable Method from Wind or Solar Sources for Larger Clean Energy Projects.
Brazil has the potential to become one of the largest exporters of green hydrogen in the world, according to chemistry professor Claudia Lira from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Santa Catarina.
In an interview with CNN Radio, she emphasized the importance of green hydrogen, which is produced sustainably, in contrast to fossil fuels, which account for 99% of current production and are much more polluting. Green hydrogen is obtained through electricity sourced from renewable energy such as wind or solar, to separate hydrogen from water molecules. The versatility and environmental benefits of green hydrogen make it a promising option for the future of energy.

‘It is a technology that is already produced, but not at a large scale‘, she added.

New catalyst developed by scientists in the USA enhances the performance of water electrolysis without using platinum, reducing operational costs and expanding the potential of green hydrogen as a strategic alternative for industries, heavy transportation, and clean energy generation.
The companies Green Energy Park and Solatio are launching this Friday one of the largest green hydrogen projects in the world.
The project will be installed in Piauí, located in Parnaíba, 340 kilometers from the capital Teresina.
The Amount of Energy Generated Is Large, Comparable to Itaipu
‘The amount of energy generated is large, comparable to Itaipu, mostly for export. Several countries rely on Brazil’s potential to generate clean energy‘, she said.
The chemistry professor also explained that solar and wind energies are not easy to store and transport, but they are used to produce green hydrogen, which is simpler to export.
Green Hydrogen Encourages Production of By-Products
Additionally, green hydrogen can also encourage the production of by-products such as green ammonia, which is used for fertilizers.
Brazil, being a large importer of the product, can benefit from this production.
