Discover how a physics student from Paraíba created an incredible cardboard motorcycle with mathematical precision. See details of this project!
An unusual project, which combines academic knowledge and manual talent, gained prominence in the city of Cuité, in the interior of Paraíba. Hector Diego, a 19-year-old physics student at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), built a detailed replica of a high-end motorcycle using primarily cardboard as the main raw material.
The initiative, started in February this year, was inspired by content creator Henry Gonçalves. Motivated by an old childhood desire, the construction of the vehicle took about 55 days of dedication, taking advantage of free time on weekends and periods without classes.
The result is a handcrafted work that uses complex calculations to ensure geometric fidelity to the real model, the Africa Twin CRF 1100.

The science behind the cardboard motorcycle
To achieve the level of realism presented, the student used advanced physics and mathematics concepts.
According to Hector, the application of trigonometry knowledge was essential to perform angle divisions and calculate the project’s scale, which followed a 1 to 10 ratio. The entire design was planned and calculated beforehand before the physical assembly of the pieces began.
In addition to the cardboard, which was collected from appliance boxes and discards from local stores in Cuité, the project incorporated technical components to provide support and simulate mechanical functioning:
- Internal structure: Rebar and metal tubing were used as a base to ensure stability.
- Electrical system: The vehicle features wires, LED lamps for the headlight, and a switch.
- Simulated mechanism: The inclusion of pipes and an electric motor was made to mimic the movement of the motorcycle’s pistons.

Achievement and Recognition on Social Media
The impact of the work was immediate on social media, exceeding the creator’s expectations. While his initial posts had limited reach, a video shared around the 45th day of production, when the front and wheels were already advanced, reached over three million views in less than 24 hours.
This repercussion was not limited to the virtual environment. The success of the cardboard motorcycle attracted bikers from various regions of the Northeast and different parts of Paraíba to Cuité, who sought to see up close the level of detail and engineering applied by the student to the vehicle.

Guidelines for Using the Replica
Despite the simulated mechanical functionality and robust appearance, the craftsman clarifies that the cardboard motorcycle cannot be ridden on public roads. The prohibition exists because the vehicle lacks registration with Detran-PB, not having the mandatory chassis or license plate for circulation.
The student, who also works with crafts and event organization, emphasizes that his main goal was never road circulation, but rather the creation of an artistic replica. Aware of traffic regulations, he states that the vehicle is intended for exhibitions and photos, maintaining the legal responsibility required for any customized assembly.
The Role of Craftsmanship as Inspiration
Hector Diego’s journey exemplifies how dedication to craftsmanship can serve as a guide for other young people.

By following the steps of his own inspiration, the student now seeks to encourage others to see the creative potential of recyclable materials.
“My goal was also to be an inspiration, because I had an inspiration, which was Henry Gonçalves, who makes videos making motorcycles, cars, everything out of cardboard. So, when I was little, I would see and think, ‘oh, I’ll make one someday’ (…) to inspire, inspire and inspire others,” concludes the young physicist.
Therefore, the construction of the cardboard motorcycle not only demonstrated Hector’s technical mastery but also established the young man as a new reference in artisanal projects in the state.
