Chevrolet Announces the Return of the ‘Celta’ to the Market with a Renewed Design and Updated Engine, Marking the Comeback of the Iconic Model After Its Discontinuation in 2016.
The national passion for popular cars is undeniable, and owning a vehicle remains the dream of many Brazilians. Now, Chevrolet, one of the most beloved brands in the country, is about to reignite that passion with the launch of the New Celta, promising to redefine expectations for affordable cars.
New Celta Expected to Arrive in 2024
The brand ended one of its most beloved cars, the Chevrolet Celta, in 2016. Launched in 2000, the car was one of the brand’s most popular models, recording excellent sales figures. During its production period, which spanned from 2000 to 2016, the Celta sold more than 1.7 million units in the country.
However, a big novelty regarding a car, which is being referred to as the ‘New Celta’, is exciting consumers. The confirmation was given by the portal Auto Mais TV, which stated that Chevrolet will have globally a subcompact hatchback to take the place of the old model, which became famous here. To fill the position, the new generation of the Chevrolet Aveo has been developed.

The car that most Brazilians buy today may cease to exist by 2030, and automakers already know that the 1.0 aspirated engine with manual transmission is numbered in the country.
Still according to the portal, Chevrolet has no plans to bring the 2024 Aveo to Brazil. However, if that happens, the name of New Celta would fit the model very well. Especially because the Chevrolet Aveo has never been used in Brazil. It is worth mentioning that the automaker also launched a sedan version of the model.
The launch was held in Mexico. In the Mexican country, according to data from the portal Quatro Rodas, the version that is being discontinued has a base price 10% lower than that of the Onix Plus. However, to have an Aveo sedan, it is necessary to have the equivalent of R$ 76,537, in direct conversion.
Equipment List and Design of the New Celta
Chevrolet has not provided much information about the new Celta. The brand is already referring to it as the 2024 line, as it will only be launched next year. The company only reports that the model will come with six airbags, ABS on all four wheels, seat belt use alert, and parking sensor among other standard items.
Visually, the new generation strays significantly from Chevrolet’s current visual language and draws influence from other models. An example of this is the design of the side window that joins the rear in an X shape similar to the Hyundai HB20 of the second generation.
It is worth noting that the old generation of the Aveo, with a sedan body, features a naturally aspirated 1.5 engine with 108 horsepower and 14.4 kgfm of torque. The transmission options are a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.
Chevrolet Brings Onix RS to Brazil
With an average price around R$ 110 thousand, varying by region, the 2024 Onix RS positions itself as an accessible option for those seeking a sporty car without sacrificing comfort and technology.
In the 2024 line, the Onix RS retains the exterior look of the previous line, featuring projector headlights with halogen bulbs and DRL.
Under the hood, the model comes with a 1.0 turbo three-cylinder engine with 115 horsepower and a torque of 16.8 kgfm, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The model stands out for its fuel efficiency, with urban consumption of 8.2 km/l on ethanol and 11.7 km/l on gasoline, and highway consumption of 10 km/l on ethanol and 14.5 km/l on gasoline.
