The Position Comes as BRICS Tighten Strategic Partnerships and Russia Intensifies Military Offensives in Donbass Region, Heightening Tension with Ukraine and the European Union.
European countries issued a statement urging the United States to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The appeal comes ahead of a meeting set for Friday in Alaska between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to discuss possible ceasefire terms.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that surrendering control of Donbass to Russia would encourage new military offensives, threatening the Baltic countries, Romania, and other Ukrainian regions. According to him, any territorial concession would require approval from parliament and the public.
The Russian government, in turn, argues that the ceasefire should include the recognition of Donbass as Russian territory, without guarantees for troop withdrawal. Moscow also accuses Ukraine of preparing a “false flag attack” to undermine the meeting between Trump and Putin.

Russian Military Advances in Eastern Ukraine
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry confirmed that Russian forces advanced over Drobopilia, capturing a 10 km strategic corridor with access to key cities such as Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk. The capture of these locations would represent an important military objective for Moscow.

In a one-hour conversation with Lula, Xi Jinping stated that China and Brazil can serve as examples of “unity and self-sufficiency” among Global South countries. Beijing confirmed participation in COP 30 in Belém and promised logistical and economic support for the event.
China also reaffirmed investments in infrastructure in Brazil, including studies for the construction of a bioceanic railway linking Brazilian ports to the Pacific, and expressed interest in partnerships in the energy and industrial sectors.
The commitment comes amid the trade dispute between China and the United States, which pressures Beijing to prioritize the purchase of American soy over Brazilian as part of possible bilateral agreements.
Soy as a Point of Tension in International Relations
Chancellor Celso Amorim classified American pressure to reduce the purchase of Brazilian soy as “practically a state of trade war.” He advocated for the country to diversify markets and strengthen ties with strategic partners to reduce dependence on the U.S.
Brazil seeks to expand trade agreements with Canada, the European Union, and Southeast Asian countries, in addition to deepening integration with BRICS and the bloc’s bank, which finances infrastructure projects.
