The Mega Plant Built by China is Valued at Over $7 Billion and Elevated the Country’s Energy Transition to Another Level
China is making a giant leap toward a greener future with the inauguration of a mega plant that combines solar, wind, and lithium batteries. Located in Shanxi province, the plant represents an investment of 55 billion yuan (about $7.7 billion) and is a milestone in the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources, according to the website Veja.
The mega plant, led by the state-owned company Jinneng, is designed to generate 6 gigawatts of electricity per hour through its wind and solar parks. Additionally, the super batteries integrated into the system will have the capacity to store 3.4 gigawatt-hours of energy, ensuring a stable supply even in variable weather conditions.
Transformation of a Polluted Province with the New Plant from China
Shanxi province, which used to be known for its coal plants and resulting pollution, is now at the forefront of the green revolution in China. The project is being built in an area that formerly hosted coal plants, symbolizing the country’s paradigm shift regarding energy.
