The USA Invested Less Than China in Renewable Energy Technology Development Focused on the Environment in the Last 10 Years

China has transitioned from a negative example to a global leader in investing in renewable energy with an environmental focus. While the USA previously led the world in investing in research and development of renewable energy, China now holds that role. This information comes from BloombergNEF.

The USA Invested Less Than China

According to data from the site, in the last 10 years, for every 1 Dollar invested by the USA in renewable energy, China invested 2 Dollars. Furthermore, the climate war between the two powers is increasingly escalating. The Asian country aims to become the major leader in supplying materials for renewable energy, as well as carbon tariffs and domestic production.

Meanwhile, the USA is focusing on developing alternative sources of clean energy. The major issue that arises is that China is the primary supplier of raw materials used for developing clean energy. In addition, the Bank of America highlights that the pursuit of renewable energy development is not only focused on reducing the effects of climate change. The main focus of both powers is to become the leading global supplier of technologies in the sector, as well as becoming completely independent from other countries.

The USA needs China for the development of renewable technologies. The Asian country supplies 80% of the rare earth metals that the North American country needs to produce wind turbines and solar panels, for example.

Climate War Between the Two Powers Could Become an Alliance

The two powers have become the major rivals in the world in this century. They disagree on practically everything. However, one thing they slightly agree upon is climate change. Last month, American and Chinese diplomats met in Alaska to discuss climate change. After the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Minister announced that the powers would create a “climate working group.” Today, 40% of carbon emissions on the planet come from the USA and China.
