A small medieval village located in the center of Italy firmly entered travelers’ radar in 2026.
Cingoli, in the province of Macerata, in the Marche region, was elected the most beautiful village in Italy in the Il Borgo dei Borghi contest, promoted by the Italian network RAI.
The victory was confirmed in the final held on April 5, 2026, when the municipality of about 9,500 inhabitants surpassed other historical destinations in the country.
As a result, the village became seen as one of the great bets for those seeking a medieval, panoramic itinerary away from mass tourism.

The “terrace of the Marche” impresses with its landscape
Cingoli received the nickname “terrace of the Marche” because of its privileged location.
The village is situated on Monte Circe, at 631 meters above sea level, which guarantees one of the widest views of central Italy.
Thus, visitors can observe the peaks of the Apennines and, on clear days, even the Adriatic Sea.
This combination of altitude, landscape, and historical center helped transform Cingoli into a destination with strong tourist appeal in 2026.
Preserved medieval architecture weighs in the choice
The recognition did not come only from the landscape.
The jury and the public highlighted mainly the medieval authenticity of Cingoli, which preserved its identity even outside the major tourist circuits.
Among the main attractions is the Collegiate Church of Sant’Esuperanzio, built in the 13th century and considered a jewel of local Gothic architecture.
The historical center still maintains medieval walls, ancient streets, and buildings that reinforce the atmosphere of a preserved village.
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta, linked to the 17th-century historical complex, also appears among the village’s highlights.

Nature and hiking increase interest in the destination
Cingoli also draws attention by combining historical heritage and outdoor tourism.
In addition to churches, palaces, and walls, the village offers options for those seeking trails, hikes, and contact with nature.
This characteristic has reinforced the town’s image as a complete destination, capable of attracting travelers interested in culture, landscape, and tranquility.
For this reason, the title awarded by Il Borgo dei Borghi 2026 has increased Cingoli’s visibility both inside and outside Italy.
Mayor highlights authenticity and quality of life
After the contest final, Mayor Michele Vittori stated that the title represents national recognition of the village.
According to him, Cingoli has come to be recognized as an example of authenticity, hospitality, and quality of life.
The mayor also declared that the administration will continue working to enhance local heritage and strengthen the tourist offer.
Now, with the title of most beautiful village in Italy in 2026, Cingoli enters a new phase of projection.
After all, how many places can still combine panoramic views, medieval architecture, and preserved local life in a single itinerary?
