The Military Fire Department of Rio Grande do Sul (CBM-RS) has officially opened applications for the new public competition of the corporation, with 400 vacancies available for the position of First Class Military Firefighter. The examination, which will be organized by Fundatec, foresees an initial salary of R$ 5,944.85, already considering the bonuses provided by law.
The opportunities are part of the state government’s effort to reinforce the public safety force, especially in emergency response actions, fire fighting, rescue, and civil defense operations, areas where the Fire Department has a strategic role in the state.
Who Can Participate in the Contest for Military Firefighter of RS
According to the announcement published on the Fundatec website, candidates with a complete high school education may participate in the selection process, provided they meet the following mandatory requirements at the time of application:

Applications for the RS Fire Department contest must be made exclusively online, at the Fundatec website (www.fundatec.org.br), until 11:59 PM on April 24, 2025. The application fee is R$ 118.79, and payment can be made until the business day following the deadline.
Candidates who meet the exemption criteria may request a waiver of the fee within the period specified in the announcement, provided they prove their low-income situation or enrollment in federal government social programs.
Stages of the Contest: Objective Test, Physical Fitness Test, and Complementary Exams
The contest will consist of five eliminatory and/or classificatory stages:
- Objective Test – scheduled for June 22, 2025, lasting 4 hours, and consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions.
- Health and Mental Examination – including clinical, laboratory, and dental assessments, as well as a psychological test.
- Physical Aptitude Test (TAF) – which includes endurance running, sit-ups, pull-ups (for men), and push-ups (for women).
- Toxicological Examination – with a wide detection window.
- Social Investigation – to check the candidate’s background and conduct.
The tests will be conducted in the main cities of the state, and the exact locations will be announced in advance on the organizer’s website. It is important for applicants to frequently check for updates to avoid missing any deadlines.
Program Content of the Objective Test
The objective test of the CBM-RS contest will cover the following subjects:
- Portuguese Language: text interpretation, grammar, and spelling;
- Logical Reasoning and Basic Mathematics: operations, proportions, percentages, and problem-solving;
- Computer Science: basic notions of operating systems, internet, and productivity tools (Office suite);
- Institutional Legislation: state military statute, organization of CBM-RS, and basic knowledge of the rights and duties of public servants.
Candidates who achieve a minimum score of 50% of the total points of the test and do not fail any subject will be considered classified.
Salary, Benefits, and Work Regime
The candidates approved in the contest for Military Firefighter of RS will enter the position of First Class, with an initial salary of R$ 5,944.85, already including risk allowances, special regime bonuses, and other benefits provided.
The employment regime will be statutory, linked to the Unique Legal Regime of Military Servants of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The firefighters will work on an operational schedule with alternating shifts, including weekends and holidays, according to the needs of the corporation.
Validity of the Contest and Possibility of Extension
According to the announcement, the validity of the examination will be two years from the date of final result approval, and may be extended only once for the same period, at the discretion of the state Public Administration.
This means that even after the initial 400 vacancies are filled, other candidates classified may be called in the future, depending on the demand from CBM-RS and the government’s budgetary availability.
