One of the main companies envisioned by Getúlio Vargas during the period of greatest growth of his government continues its growth since its privatization in the 1990s, specifically in the year 1993, and occupies the leading position in the group that carries its name. As its most recent measure to boost its development, the company acquired part of the land where the Ford factory was located in the municipality of Taubaté, in the state of São Paulo.
According to the magazine Veja, CSN bought 50% of the property acquired by São José Desenvolvimento Imobiliário after the closure of the Ford manufacturing unit two years ago. In addition to this, the automaker also closed operations at two other factories: Camaçari (BA) and Belo Horizonte (MG).
The confirmation of CSN’s purchase of the former Ford pavilions was published this week in the Official Gazette. CSN will be responsible for the production of, among other mining products, coatings for boxes, steel parts, and cans. Thus, job openings may be made available for the mining sector in the Taubaté region.

CSN Aims for Possible Relocation of One of the Group’s Can Manufacturing Units, Prada. Such an Event Could Promote the Opening of Job Openings for Mining at the Location
According to CSN, the installation of the manufacturer Prada in the region where the Ford factory used to be located still depends on the authorization of state and municipal authorities, who will need to analyze the positive impacts, such as job creation, and the negative ones, such as potential environmental impacts resulting from mining activities.
According to a statement made by CSN, the business of manufacturing cans, boxes, and steel materials of the Prada company accounts for about 2% of the group’s total revenue, which is primarily made up of large companies in the mining sector, responsible for a significant portion of the supply of derivatives from this activity, both for Brazil and for other countries.
