The Announcement 27/2024, published by CAPES and the Fulbright Commission, presents a unique opportunity for English language teachers currently working in public basic education in Brazil. The Professional Development Program for English Language Teachers in the USA (PDPI) offers an intensive English course at American universities, providing enriching academic and cultural experiences.
With up to 270 slots available, the program aims to strengthen the linguistic and pedagogical skills of teachers, contributing to the excellence of English language teaching in the country. The PDPI seeks to develop four linguistic skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), as well as promote cultural contribution and the sharing of innovative methodologies. The free course lasts for six weeks, with activities including theoretical and practical classes, seminars, and assessments, conducted in-person at universities in the USA.
Slot Distribution and Modalities
The program provides 270 slots, distributed across three proficiency levels:

Petrobras and SENAI open 480 spots in free technical courses with a scholarship of up to R$ 858, meal allowance, and training in Mechanics, Welding, Metallurgy, and Industrial Automation to meet the growing demand of the industry and the oil and gas sector.

Take a technical course at the Federal Institute: there are over 950 open spots in free technical courses in Logistics, Mechanics, Baking, Building Construction, and Renewable Energy Systems at IFPI.

Electricians School begins a new phase of training with 600 spots for a free technical course at Senai and strengthens the connection between professional education, technological innovation, and concrete opportunities for market entry.

The state of Paraná offers 3,500 free technical course slots in 2026 and begins a new phase of professional training with enrollment open until June 30, strengthening workforce development in sectors that drive the regional economy.
- Basic English: up to 5 slots per state.
- Intermediate English: up to 3 slots per state.
- Advanced English: up to 2 slots per state.
Remaining slots will be redistributed regionally, prioritizing filling in neighboring states.
Process for the Free Course
Candidates must take the mandatory and free TOEFL ITP proficiency test. The score will determine the modality for which the candidate is eligible. Additionally, the selection process includes a thorough document analysis, prioritizing tenured teachers currently in active regular service.
The announcement also includes affirmative actions to correct regional asymmetries, redistributing idle slots as necessary.
Application Requirements
To apply, candidates must be tenured English language teachers in the public network of education, with the probationary period completed, and be actively teaching throughout the process. Interested individuals must be Brazilian nationals (or permanent residents), present their TOEFL ITP performance, and not have participated in previous editions of the PDPI or similar programs. Documentation such as identification, consent form, and valid passport is also essential.

The program offers three modalities of courses, according to the candidate’s proficiency level:
