The director of the educational unit, Kátia Pedroso Silveira, explained the objectives of each free technical course: “There are two courses, one in systems development focused on developing applications for cell phones and mobile devices. So, the person leaves with the ability to develop this type of application. The other is in biotechnology focused on clinical analysis. So it is more geared towards health,” she explained.
The director also mentioned that these technical courses have a good market in Belo Horizonte, being highly sought after by companies. “These are areas where the market is very open. We have a lot of demand here in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. There are many industries and many companies that work both in the systems development area and in the biotechnology area. There is a great demand for this type of professional, which is not available in the market,” she explained.

Selection for Free Technical Courses
Kátia informed that the selection to take the free technical courses offered by UFMG is based on the Enem score. “The person registers, and from this registration, we pull the scores that the person has on the ENEM, and the ENEM score will be used for classification. And it doesn’t have to be just this year’s ENEM. It’s the ENEM from the last years, from 2016 until now 2021,” she explained.
Each technical course has 36 vacancies available for new students. Half of this amount is allocated to general competition, and the other half is divided according to the reservation criteria, as detailed in Table I of the registration notice. The registration fee for the technical courses is R$ 30. Classes and practical activities will be held in the evening.
Selection Result
The Selection Process for the Free Technical Courses will have a single stage based on the scores obtained by candidates in the National High School Examination (Enem). The preliminary selection result will be announced on January 26, 2022, and the final result, after the appeal period, will be available on February 3, on the Copeve page.
