Brasília Is The Selected Capital For The Launch Of The 5G Network In Brazil
With about 3 years of delay compared to the rest of the world, the implementation of the 5G network in Brazil is finally going to happen and the first capital to receive the 5G signal for mobile telephony will be Brasília
According to Moisés Moreira, the counselor and vice president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the signal will be released this Wednesday (07/06).
How Will The 5G Network Be Implemented?
Speaking at the Teletime Inc event in São Paulo, the technical group of Anatel that is responsible for evaluating the clearing of the 3.5 gigahertz (GHz) band approved yesterday (07/04) the activation of the 5G signal in Brasília.

It is true that, initially, the forecast was that all capitals would have the 5G signal released by July 31, 2022, however, at the beginning of the year, the operators were already saying they were facing some obstacles.
To create the infrastructure for transmitting the 5G signal, the municipalities should approve a municipal law allowing the installation of the equipment. Of the 26 capitals, only 10 and the Federal District already have laws that allow this installation, which needs to be done on the rooftops of buildings or on light poles.
This was probably one of the reasons why the federal capital was the first to have the 5G network operational for mobile telephony. And, according to Moreira, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, and Porto Alegre will be the next capitals to have the 5G signal released, but still without a deadline for when.
But, there is a new deadline! The operation of the 5G technology in all capitals has been postponed to September 29. The launch of the 5G network in Brasília will serve as a test, with Anatel and mobile operators installing anti-interference filters.
Check The History Of The 5G Licensing Process
As we mentioned before, the bidding notice for the 5G auction, which took place in November 2021, projected that all capitals would have the 5G technology implemented by 07/31/2022.
However, due to setbacks related to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as chip shortages and delays in the production and import of electronic equipment, this timeline has changed.
Additionally, there are other necessary adaptations, such as the signal migration process from satellite antennas. According to ANATEL, the capitals of Brazil would be the first to change the frequencies of open television starting June 30. The list of open satellite TV channels should migrate from Band C to Band Ku. This will also lead to an improvement in audio and video quality, according to the Frequency Administrating Entity (EAF), responsible for the migration.
Moreira is also the president of the Anatel technical group responsible for releasing the frequency (3.5GHz) through which the 5G telephone signal will transit, and currently, this frequency migration is also delayed.
What Are The Advantages Of 5G Technology?
So far, we have discussed when and how 5G will be implemented in Brazil, but we need to talk about why. After all, what are the advantages of 5G?
Well, to start, about 50,000 jobs are expected to be created in 2022 with the arrival of 5G, according to Conexis Brasil Digital and Brasscom, entities that work in telecommunications and connectivity.
The 5G technology has the potential to revolutionize many areas, and it is a misconception to think it is only in telecommunications. Agronomy, medicine, information technology, industrial sector, education, entertainment, in short, there are no restrictions. And, if we compare 4G (the current mobile internet network) with 5G, we can say that, in summary, the advantages of 5G are:
And finally, we remind you that the 5G technology was acquired by only 3 operators: TIM, Claro, and Vivo. The operators claim that customers who already have 4G plans will be able to upgrade at no cost, they just need to have a phone adapted for the 5G technology.
So, are you excited to harness the full potential of 5G technology on your phone?
