Free Course Aims to Help Drivers and Future Drivers Overcome Emotional Blocks Behind the Wheel, with Modules on Psychology, Legislation, and Practical Techniques, Offering Unique Support Online and Certification to Participants.

The State Department of Transit of Espírito Santo (Detran|ES) has opened enrollment for the free online course “Without Fear of Driving,” aimed at helping people who feel apprehensive or anxious about taking the wheel, even after obtaining their National Driver’s License (CNH).

The initiative offers 50 spots in the first class, aimed at both licensed drivers and those who have not yet obtained their license but wish to overcome emotional blocks related to traffic.

The course will take place from August 5 to August 14, always from 2 PM to 5 PM, using the Distance Learning format (EaD), with live classes through the Public Traffic School (EPT) platform.

The content covers everything from psychological aspects to practical and theoretical guidelines, with modules developed by professionals specialized in areas such as psychology, legislation, and defensive driving.

Among the main topics covered are the recognition and management of the fear of driving, techniques to increase self-confidence in traffic, as well as strategies for dealing with risky situations and anxiety while driving vehicles.

According to Detran|ES, the course stands out for uniquely combining disciplines focused on self-knowledge, emotional development, and traffic safety, seeking to offer comprehensive support to participants.

The general director of Detran|ES, Givaldo Vieira, emphasized that licensing not only facilitates mobility but also expands employment opportunities and ensures greater autonomy for the population.

According to Vieira, the new course aims to help create safer, more aware, and better-prepared drivers to face the challenges of public roadways.

“We are inviting all licensed individuals who are afraid to drive, as well as those who have not been able to obtain their license due to this fear. The objective is to support these citizens so that they can overcome this barrier and gain more freedom and safety on the road,” he explained.

How the “Without Fear of Driving” Course Works

The “Without Fear of Driving” course is divided into six modules, each lasting three hours, taught over two weeks on alternate days.

The classes are live, allowing direct interaction between students and instructors, as well as enabling the sharing of experiences and clarification of doubts in real time.

In the first module, psychologist Lívia Ferrão presents methods to identify the causes of fear of driving, discusses emotional and physical reactions associated with the block, and proposes practical self-knowledge exercises.

The second module, led by traffic instructor Josenildo de Paula, focuses on defensive driving techniques, covering practices such as maintaining a safe distance, observing the surroundings, and acting preventively in unexpected situations.

The third module, taught by the Detran|ES Traffic Surveillance Manager, Jederson Lobato, explores essential aspects of Brazilian traffic legislation, including circulation rules, conduct, penalties, and relevant information contained in the CNH and the Annual Licensing Certificate (CLA).

The content also covers updates from the National Traffic Council (Contran) and the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran), agencies responsible for setting guidelines for safe mobility in the country.

In the next module, analyst Jéssica Dias Castilho, from the Public Traffic School of Detran|ES, details the fundamentals of safe mobility and discusses the challenges of traffic safety in the urban context.

The content includes principles such as “Vision Zero” — an international strategy aimed at eliminating traffic deaths — and guidelines on how to make vehicle circulation safer and more sustainable for all users.

The relationship between psychological factors and behavior behind the wheel is explored in the fifth module, again with Jéssica Castilho, which addresses topics such as attention, perception, decision-making, and the role of emotions in accident prevention.

The module also discusses the risks associated with the use of alcohol, drugs, fatigue, and distraction while driving.

Finally, the sixth module addresses the management of anxiety and stress while driving, presenting strategies to identify emotional triggers, manage congested traffic, and maintain self-control in conflict or pressure situations.

Exercises are presented to recognize physical and emotional symptoms, as well as guidelines for rational responses to aggressive behaviors from other drivers.

Benefits of the Course for Drivers and Future Drivers

According to recent data from the National Road Safety Observatory, the fear of driving affects thousands of Brazilians and can directly impact urban mobility, self-esteem, and even individuals’ professional lives.

Many people miss out on job opportunities or lose chances for leisure because they do not feel safe driving a vehicle.

By promoting the course “Without Fear of Driving,” Detran|ES seeks to reduce this obstacle, contributing to the formation of more confident drivers who are attentive to traffic regulations.

In addition to psychological support, the free program also reinforces fundamental knowledge about legislation, ethics, and citizenship in traffic, essential aspects for anyone wishing to obtain or renew the CNH responsibly.

The active participation of students during virtual classes is one of the differentiators, as it allows for sharing experiences and building collective solutions to common problems faced by drivers on a daily basis.

Another relevant point is the practical approach of the modules, which encourages participants to gradually confront their fears through technical guidance and exercises in breathing, relaxation, and decision-making under pressure.

At the end of the course, it is expected that students will feel more prepared to drive vehicles in different contexts, promoting safer and more humane traffic.

Enrollment for the “Without Fear of Driving” course must be done directly on the Detran|ES website.
