A recent case reinforces the dangers of texting while driving, especially among professional drivers such as police officers.
Recently, a shocking incident was captured on security cameras in Tulsa, United States. A police officer, inside a patrol car, was caught using his cell phone while driving, just seconds before being hit by another vehicle.
The accident, which could have been much more serious, raises the discussion about the risks of using devices furnishings while behind the wheel.
Don't text while driving
The video, captured by the police car's dashcam, clearly shows the officer using his phone while driving.

At the same time, the other car, which was apparently out of control, crossed the sidewalk, passed through some trees and hit the vehicle head on.
The impact caused the police officer's airbag to deploy, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The police officer was taken to hospital, but without major after-effects.
The danger of cell phones while driving
It's a situation that all drivers are advised to avoid: using a cell phone while driving. The distraction caused by a message, a call or even just looking at the screen can be fatal.
In the Tulsa case, the accident could have been avoided if the officer had not been distracted.”I think it's dangerous. The rule is clear: no one should use their cell phone while driving.“, said Christina Bonds, a resident of the area where the accident occurred.
She says that the region is already known for its heavy traffic and the large number of distracted drivers.
Christina isn’t the only one who’s seen risky behavior on the streets. For her, distracted driving has become commonplace, with drivers paying more attention to their phones than to the road.
"It's scary around here because people don't pay attention. It seems like their attention is on anything but driving.“, Bonds added.
The impact on public safety
The incident also raises a question about the behavior of security officers themselves.
As public servants responsible for the safety of the community, police officers are expected to model safe behavior on the road.
The fact that an officer was involved in an accident due to cell phone use is a reminder of the importance of staying focused on the road, regardless of the role or situation.
