Electric Hatch Arrives in Brazil With Sporty Performance and Price Below Traditional Rivals. The British MG Model Promises to Challenge Internal Combustion Competitors With 435 Hp and All-Wheel Drive in a 100% Electric Package.
The British brand MG, currently owned by the Chinese group SAIC Motor, started its operations in Brazil by focusing on a little-explored segment among electric vehicles: that of medium hatches.
The MG4 XPower, launched in pre-sale for R$ 224,800 (with a price adjustment expected to R$ 229,800 after the initial period), arrives aiming to combine sporty performance and more accessible pricing compared to internal combustion models of the same category.
Strategy and Positioning of MG in the Brazilian Market
In a scenario dominated by SUVs, MG’s choice to start local sales with an electric hatch was considered by industry analysts to be an unusual strategy.

The manufacturer aims to attract consumers seeking high performance, but who do not wish to invest amounts exceeding R$ 400,000 in internal combustion sports cars, such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
The new GTI, relaunched in Brazil, starts at around R$ 430,000, while the MG4 is offered for nearly half that price.

MG representatives state that the expectation is for the hatch to achieve sales volumes close to those of the SUV S5, also electric, positioned as the brand’s highest volume model in the country.
Power and Performance of the MG4 XPower
The MG4 XPower features two electric motors, one on each axle, totaling 435 hp of power and 61.2 kgfm of torque.
This setup provides all-wheel drive and acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, according to data released by the manufacturer.
For comparison, the Golf GTI sold in Brazil has 245 hp and 37.7 kgfm of torque, with acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, according to information from Volkswagen.
Range and Recharging of the Electric Hatch
The 64 kWh battery offers 279 km of range in the Inmetro cycle, according to MG.
The manufacturer states that the model can be recharged from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes on high-power DC chargers, depending on the infrastructure used.
Experts in electric mobility assess that this range places the MG4 XPower among options predominantly aimed at urban use, with the potential for short trips when charging is planned.

Dimensions and Internal Space of the MG4
With 4.28 meters in length, 1.83 m in width, 1.50 m in height, and 2.70 m in wheelbase, the MG4 XPower occupies the range of medium hatches.
The trunk has a capacity of 350 liters, according to the manufacturer.
The proportions bring the model closer to traditional medium sports vehicles, a segment that has been decreasing among internal combustion cars but still maintains a loyal audience.
Design and External Details
The model features angular lines, LED headlights, and rear lights connected by a light strip that crosses the trunk lid.
The conventional door handles and the clean design of the lighting assembly follow a trend observed in recently launched electric vehicles in the international market.
Interior and Standard Equipment
Inside, the MG4 boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch floating multimedia center, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via cable.

The vehicle also includes a wireless phone charger, soft materials in parts of the finish, and a 350-liter trunk.
The model offers five driving modes (Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, and Customized) and features an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), which includes emergency autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keeping assist, and rear cross traffic alert.
Electric Line of MG in Brazil
In addition to the MG4 XPower, MG has placed the electric SUV S5 in pre-sale, with an initial price of R$ 219,800, and is preparing to start deliveries of the electric roadster Cyberster, which will be sold for R$ 499,800.
The latter has 510 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
According to the company, the trio of models represents the beginning of the electrification strategy in the country, with different pricing and target audiences.

Industry analysts claim that the presence of a sporty hatch among the launches could help solidify the brand’s image among consumers interested in performance combined with electric propulsion.
Direct Competition and Target Audience
MG points out that the MG4 XPower aims to attract potential buyers of sporty hatches, such as Volkswagen Golf GTI, Honda Civic Type R, and Toyota GR Corolla, whose prices exceed R$ 400,000.
According to brand representatives, the goal is to offer a high-performance alternative at a lower cost, leveraging the growing interest in sporty electric vehicles.
Market Outlook for the MG4 XPower
The MG4 XPower has been sold abroad since 2022 and is now arriving in the Brazilian market as one of the first electric hatches with performance appeal.
The manufacturer has confirmed that a second version of the model will be presented at the São Paulo Auto Show, which is expected to broaden the range of options in the segment.
Experts assess that the model’s success will depend not only on performance and price but also on the expansion of the dealership network and the availability of technical assistance, factors that are still developing in the country.
