The Lagoinha Solar Complex, inaugurated in Russas (CE), is expected to generate more than 1,000 jobs and supply 200 thousand homes with solar energy. Know the positive impacts.

Last Thursday (26), the municipality of Russas, in the Jaguaribe Valley (CE), was the stage for the inauguration of the Lagoinha Solar Complex, a project that combines economic development and sustainability. The venture, led by multinational CGN Brasil, not only strengthens the renewable energy matrix of the state, but also promises the creation of more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The installation has a capacity of 165 megawatts, covering an area of 304 hectares, enough to supply around 200 thousand homes.

This initiative is part of Ceará’s strategy to expand its participation in the production of solar energy and generate a positive impact on the local economy.

The project arrives at a crucial moment, as Brazil intensifies the use of clean sources, with ambitious goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar Energy in Ceará Is an Strategic Advancement

The Lagoinha Solar Complex stands out as CGN Brasil’s first greenfield (built from scratch) project in the solar sector in the country.

The project marks a new phase for Ceará, which already has 55 renewable energy ventures in operation, totaling an installed capacity of 1.26 gigawatts.

Governor Elmano de Freitas highlighted the importance of the project:

“We are facing a collaborative action between the Chinese State, the Chinese people, and the Brazilian people. The project underway here, by CGN, is the realization of treaties and discussions between our leaders. This project expresses concretely how we can effectively collaborate with humanity to overcome the effects of climate change.”

Job Creation and Regional Development

One of the main positive impacts of the Lagoinha Solar Complex is job creation. According to estimates, the venture is expected to create more than 1,000 job positions through direct and indirect hiring.

The mayor of Russas, Sávio Gurgel, celebrated the inauguration:

“Today is a very important day for the municipality of Russas. The day we inaugurate a work of great significance, for the jobs generated and for the contribution to the environment.”

In addition to jobs, CGN Brasil reaffirmed its commitment to the local community through social actions.

During the inauguration ceremony, solar panels were donated to public schools and sports materials, promoting environmental education and inclusion.

Lagoinha Solar Complex: Positive Environmental Impact

The operation of the Lagoinha Solar Complex also represents a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

With its renewable energy production, the estimate is that 350 thousand tons of carbon dioxide will be avoided in the atmosphere.

Zhigang Yao, president of CGN Brasil, emphasized the environmental value of the project:

“I want to thank everyone who worked with dedication to realize this project. We are taking solid steps in partnership with Brazil to produce renewable energy for the population. We are contributing to the country’s energy transition. With our capacity to generate energy here, the Complex will avoid the emission of 350 thousand tons of carbon dioxide.”

CGN Brasil and Investments in Clean Energy in the Country

CGN Brasil is part of the CGN Energy International Holdings Co. group, with a presence in more than 15 countries.

Since 2019, the company has operated in Brazil, and in 2024, it signed an agreement with the Government of Ceará to develop solar and wind projects in the state.

In addition to the Lagoinha Solar Complex, CGN Brasil announced the creation of a new company focused on the operation and maintenance (O&M) of solar and wind plants, which should further expand the local and national job market.

Ceará as a Reference in Renewable Energy

The state of Ceará has already established itself as one of the leaders in clean energy production in Brazil. With 102 wind farms in operation and 68 projects in development, the region aims to reach an additional 2.7 GW soon.

Furthermore, the state is a leader in green hydrogen projects, with seven announced initiatives that are expected to generate more than 80 thousand jobs and attract R$ 131 billion in investments by 2032.

The donation of solar panels to public schools in Russas carries significant symbolism: promoting environmental awareness from an early age.

This action also reduces the operational costs of the institutions, freeing up resources for investments in other areas of education.

With this, the Lagoinha Solar Complex is more than just a power plant; it becomes a true engine of regional transformation.
