The German Company Sowitec Will Make an Investment in the North of the State of Minas Gerais in Solar Photovoltaic and Hybrid Source Projects
Sowitec, a German company, will make a R$ 5.2 billion investment in the state of Minas Gerais in three major renewable energy projects. Two are exclusively solar photovoltaic, and one is a hybrid source, with the latter converging on both solar photovoltaic and wind generation. Details of Renewable Energy Projects to Be Installed in Minas Gerais
According to the website Agência Minas Gerais, the hybrid project (wind and solar), named Gameleiras Energy Generation Complex, will be installed in the municipalities of Monte Azul, Espinosa, Santo Antônio do Retiro, Rio Pardo de Minas, and Mato Verde, in Minas Gerais.
The estimated power capacity of the initial phases of this project in Minas Gerais is 600 MW for wind and 400 MWac (520 MWp) for solar. In subsequent phases of the project, the estimated capacities are expected to jump to 1,400 MW for wind and 600 MWac (780 MWp) for solar. This means that, when fully implemented, it could meet an average of 1,500 residences per year.

China is building 5 cascade dams for $167 billion in Tibet — and the Motuo Project will have 70 GW of capacity, three times more than the world’s current largest power plant.
The solar projects Minas do Sol, in Pirapora, and Presidente JK, in the town of the same name, are in an advanced stage of development, with all properties regularized, solarimetric measurement according to the parameters of the competent authorities, and environmental installation licenses issued. The first will have the potential to serve, on average, 250 residences per year, and the second, 350.
The full implementation of the projects in Minas Gerais is estimated to take two to four years, with the start expected from 2023. The first phase of the projects is expected to go into operation by the end of 2024, and all phases are anticipated to be completed by 2027. It is estimated that 400 jobs will be created during the implementation period.
Advancement in the Use of Renewable Energy Sources
Minas Gerais, which is already a leader in the country in solar photovoltaic energy generation, will now take another decisive step in the renewable energy generation market. This time, the state will advance in relation to another important clean energy source that has not been adequately utilized: wind energy. To give an idea of the scale of the wind complex, the project is expected to be installed in an area of 355 hectares, equivalent to more than 300 football fields. To achieve this, the company conducted an mapping of the areas and estimates the regularization of 130 to 150 properties.
In addition to the advancement of the state in clean energy generation, the implementation of the project will also bring a long-desired solution for the local population. The Gameleiras complex will be situated in a region predominantly comprising areas with a history of complicated land regularization processes. Therefore, an agreement between the company and the government of Minas Gerais aims to expedite the regularization processes.
According to Sowitec’s vice director, Edgard Almeida, the company is committed to encouraging property owners to seek titles for all properties. “We will spread information about this regularization possibility and provide all technical, legal, and financial support to property owners at all stages of the regularization process,” he assured.
