The German Startup Energyminer, developed a mini hydropower plant that generates clean energy sufficient to supply 400 homes. The equipment focuses on environmental preservation and marine fauna.
In an era where awareness of the importance of sustainable development continues to grow, a new solution for generating clean energy is emerging from the German startup Energyminer. The company developed the Energyfish, an innovative mini hydropower plant that uses the currents of rivers to generate electricity, without harming aquatic life or disrupting the natural flow of water.
Mini Hydropower Plant Can Generate Clean Energy and Supply About 470 Families
The Energyfish is a significant revolution in terms of clean energy generation that does not harm ecosystems. Its installation does not require the construction of dams or concrete expansions, thus preserving the natural environment of the river.
Additionally, the mini hydropower plant generates minimal impact on the river’s flow, and the waters return to their original speed after just 20 meters. This mini hydropower plant has other remarkable attributes. The operation of the mini hydropower plant is silent and almost imperceptible, as 90% of the equipment remains submerged. Weighing about 80 kg and measuring 3×2. 4×1 meters, the Energyfish can also be adaptable to extreme conditions, such as flooding, ice, excess debris, or sediment.

According to Energyminer, a single unit has the capacity to generate 15 MWh per year. In a set of 100 units of this mini hydropower plant, the production increases to 1.5 GWh per year, clean energy sufficient to supply about 470 families.
The protection of aquatic life is one of the essential priorities of the Energyfish. Equipped with a front grid, it prevents large fish from approaching the rotating blades. Smaller fish can safely swim through the slowly rotating rotors, while fish that collide with the equipment are gently repelled, ensuring their safety.
Mini Hydropower Plant Can Generate Up to 60 Volts
In case of damage to the device’s cables, the low voltage of 60 volts does not pose a risk to humans or local fauna. Moreover, due to its aerodynamic design, swimmers or water sports practitioners are not at risk of injury.
The Energyfish can also be easily moved or sunk to allow safe passage for river users. The project is currently operating a pilot in Munich, Germany, demonstrating the potential of this innovative mini hydropower plant for generating clean energy.
Its installation requires minimal alteration to the natural environment, and it coexists harmoniously with other existing structures in the area. Engineers have taken great care to ensure that the mini hydropower plant has an extended lifespan.
The projected lifespan of the equipment exceeds 10 years, demonstrating its durability and reliable technology. By incorporating a robust construction and reliable technology, the clean energy-generating equipment was developed to provide uninterrupted long-term electricity production.
Other Sustainable Equipment in the Market
Another German company has developed a mini hydropower plant that uses river flow in a practical way. The Smart Hydro Power has been developing products focusing on this theme with its mini turbine, aiming to generate clean energy to supply communities through river movement.
The mini turbine features three blades of approximately 1 meter in diameter, connected to an electric generator to take advantage of wave motion.
The product design is made to maximize output; the device was specially created to utilize the water’s speed as it passes through. Being compact and with quick installation, the mini hydropower plant can be installed in channels with a minimum depth and width of two meters.
