Ambev, Beverage Manufacturing Company, Is Investing in Renewable Energy Sources. 51 Thousand Solar Panels Will Be Installed Across Brazil
Ambev, a leader in beverage manufacturing, announced that it will build 48 solar power plants to supply 94 distribution centers in Brazil. The plan is part of the company’s commitment to consuming 100% renewable energy by 2025 and reducing carbon emissions by 25%. A total of 51 thousand solar panels will be installed, with a generation capacity of 19 megawatts (MW), enough to power 15 thousand homes.

The solar plants will be built in 21 states and the Federal District, where Ambev operates. The project will be carried out in cooperation with Solution, GD Solar, and Gera Energia, which will reduce 46 thousand tons of CO² annually. They will be responsible for the entire project and will deliver energy to Ambev under a 10-year contract. After this period, the beverage manufacturers will have the option to purchase the units.
Last month, the first solar plant of the project was inaugurated in Anápolis, Goiás. The plant is built in the shape of the Budweiser brand and will provide services on-site for the four distribution centers of the company. By December, 20 more units will be inaugurated, and the remaining ones are expected to be in operation by the end of the first quarter of next year.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Leonardo Coelho, Ambev’s Director of Sustainability and Supply, highlights that the idea for the solar project arose from an initiative to supply energy to the group’s brewery. Last year, Ambev’s Budweiser announced plans to build an 80 MW wind farm in Bahia. The project will be constructed in cooperation with investment manager Casaforte, which is expected to start operations in early 2022 and will supply 100% of the consumption for the five breweries producing Budweiser in the country.
