The space, which has already hosted matches of Corinthians and Santos as well as historic shows, gains accessibility, two big screens, and over 11 thousand seats, with delivery expected in the first semester of 2026.

The reform of R$ 70 million goes beyond a new paint job. The project touches the heart of the stadium, with changes in the athletics area, improvements for the public, and adaptations for people with disabilities, in a complete modernization of the sports facility.

According to the Government of São Paulo, the construction reached 30% completion in December, after a contract was signed in 2024 with a consortium for the renovation, restoration, and modernization of the space.

What Changes With the R$ 70 Million Renovation at the Ícaro de Castro Mello Stadium

The R$ 70 million renovation includes modernization of various parts of the stadium. Interventions are planned for the track, restrooms, stands, and landscaping, as well as the restoration of the historic concrete structure.

The project also foresees new guardrails, accessible restrooms, and a specific platform for people with disabilities, reinforcing the stadium’s adaptation for more inclusive use.

New Track and Improvements for Athletics

In the athletics area, the 9th lane will be built along with a warm-up track. Changing rooms and support structures for athletes will undergo renovation and modernization.

Thus, the R$ 70 million renovation aims to update the stadium for current sports demands, improving infrastructure for training, competitions, and athletes’ routines.

Stands, Big Screens, and Over 11 Thousand Seats

Another key aspect of the project is the restructuring of the stands. The plan includes more than 11 thousand seats and the installation of two big screens, in addition to safety adjustments with new guardrails.

For those attending events at the venue, the R$ 70 million renovation directly impacts comfort, visibility, and audience organization.

A Historic Stadium That Has Hosted Memorable Football and Concerts

Inaugurated on August 21, 1954, the Ícaro de Castro Mello Stadium has been the stage for athletics competitions and has also hosted football matches, including games of Corinthians and Santos.

Beyond sports, the space has also been marked by shows like Black Sabbath in 1992 and Elton John in 1995, reinforcing the cultural significance of the stadium within the city.

Delivery Deadline and Construction Progress

The forecast is that the construction will be delivered in the first semester of 2026, with a total investment of approximately R$ 70 million. According to the Government of São Paulo, by December, execution reached 30%.

The R$ 70 million renovation is under the responsibility of a consortium contracted in 2024 for the renovation, restoration, and modernization of the space.

And now a quick question: do you think the R$ 70 million renovation should prioritize the athletics and sports structure first, or the public experience, with seating, big screens, and accessibility?
