Brazilian Army Took A Big Step To Strengthen Security In The Amazon By Signing, This Month Of December, A Historic Agreement In The Field Of Telecommunications.
The Brazilian Army, through its Integrated Telecommunication Center, signed an essential agreement with the 3.5 GHz Band Administration Entity (EAF), a group formed by the winners of the 5G auction, to consolidate the possibility of maintaining the necessary infrastructures for strategic telecommunications in Northern Brazil, essential for the defense of the country in the Amazon.
Agreement Of The Brazilian Army That Will Benefit The Amazon
The Command of the Brazilian Army, through the Army’s Integrated Telecommunication Center (CITEx) and the Department of Science and Technology (DCT), signed on December 1st a Cooperation Agreement with the civil society organization 3.5 GHz Band Administration Entity (EAF).
This agreement aims to unite efforts for the implementation and maintenance of strategic telecommunications infrastructures of national defense interest, as well as the provision of services that promote digital inclusion in the Amazon Region, in the context of the Integrated And Sustainable Amazon Program and the Connected Amazon Project.

A vanished ocean on Mars left a detectable mineral ring billions of years later, Chinese scientists claim: manganese deposits indicate stable water for up to 1.5 million years in Utopia Planitia, a region that may hold clues about environments favorable to ancient life.
The agreement with the Brazilian Army in the area of telecommunications also foresees joint initiatives focusing on the exchange of knowledge, capabilities, and experiences of CITEx and EAF, related to the construction of long-distance data transport networks, metropolitan networks, resilient infrastructure sharing, governance models for information and communication technology, staff training, and the development of dual-use applications.
This cooperation will enhance the benefits anticipated by the Connected Amazon and Integrated Sustainable Amazon projects, improving communications of interest for National Defense and the implementation of public policies focusing on digital inclusion in the Northern Region.
Who Was Present During The Signing Of The Telecommunications-Focused Agreement?
With this new partnership with the Brazilian Army, the expectation is not only to increase command and control capacity in the area of the Amazon Military Command and the Northern Military Command but also to support public policies for sustainable digital inclusion, which are objectives of the Connected Amazon Project.
Present for the signing of the Cooperation Agreement in Telecommunications were Major General Eduardo Wolski, Head of Command, Control, and Information of the DCT, Brigadier General Jacy Barbosa Junior, Head of CITEx, Mr. Leandro Guerra, General Director of EAF, and Mr. Carlos Baigorri, President of Anatel.
It is worth noting that, in September, the Amazon Military Command (CMA) received an international delegation composed of representatives from telecommunications companies in Colombia, Peru, Portugal, Suriname, and French Guiana, as well as members from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and UNESCO.
The purpose of the visit was to present and inspect the Connected Amazon Program (PAC), an initiative that has generated internet access in nine remote locations in Amazonas, improving the quality of life of the population and boosting economic development and security in Western Amazon.
Learn More About The Connected Amazon Program
The PAC infrastructure involved the installation of over 1,200 km of optical cables in the region since 2015, significantly contributing to connect units of the Brazilian Army and other government agencies.
The PAC is a strategic project that consists of laying fiber optic cables along the beds of the Amazon rivers to establish high-speed data transmission channels. The project is dual-use, as previously mentioned, meaning that other government entities can partner with it to benefit rural populations in the region.
The joint effort of the Brazilian Army, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovations resulted in the creation of the PAC in 2015. In addition to providing connectivity to the population, the developed communication infrastructure enables other government agencies to implement public policies in previously underserved areas, offering services such as internet, telemedicine, distance learning, public safety, and more.
