The Brazilian Army Is Close to Concluding a Contract with IVECO for the Purchase of 420 Guaicuru Armored Vehicles, Aiming to Expand Its Arsenal of Light Combat Vehicles, with the First Delivery of Vehicles Dating Back to 2018 and Including New Protocols to Strengthen and Modernize the Capabilities of the National Ground Force.
The Brazilian Army is about to finalize a significant agreement with IVECO for the acquisition of 420 units of the LMV IVECO 4×4 armored vehicle, now renamed Guaicuru, according to the Army Projects Office (EPEx). This advancement comes after the signing of a series of memorandums of intent on the 17th of this month, aimed at the expansion and diversification of the portfolio of armored vehicles available to the national ground force.
According to the Army Projects Office, the protocols established with IVECO Defense Vehicles aim not only to increase the number of Guarani vehicles under the administration of the Logistical Command but also to formalize the terms for new acquisitions of lightweight multifunctional Guaicuru vehicles. The purchase process is being managed by the Manufacturing Directorate, under the supervision of the science and technology department.
Brazilian Army Currently Operates 40 Units of the Guaicuru Armored Vehicle
Currently, the Brazilian Army already operates 40 units of the Guaicuru armored vehicle, with an additional eight expected for delivery from IVECO. This movement is part of an ongoing program that began in 2018 with the emergency acquisition of 16 units directly from the stocks of the Italian Army for use in the federal intervention in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019, a contract was signed for an initial batch of 32 vehicles, marking the second phase of acquisitions.

Guaicuru by Iveco
The Guaicuru, an armored vehicle produced by Iveco Defence Vehicles, is an example of engineering tailored to Brazilian military needs. Inspired by the name of a warrior indigenous tribe from the Central-West of Brazil, the Guaicuru was developed from the LMV-BR (Light Multirole Vehicle) model, adjusted to meet the specific requirements of the Brazilian Army.
The Guaicurus are designed to operate in a variety of missions, including patrol, reconnaissance, and security. Versatility is a strong point, allowing them to adapt to different operational scenarios. With 4×4 traction, the vehicles can handle challenging terrains, from urban areas to rural and mountainous landscapes. The payload capacity of approximately one ton makes them ideal for transporting troops and equipment. The armored structure offers protection against light weapons and shrapnel, essential for operations in conflict or border zones.
