Studying Pedagogy at one of the most respected universities in Brazil without leaving home is already a reality.

The State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) announced the opening of 480 spots for the Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy in the Distance Education (EAD) modality, with in-person support in centers spread throughout the state.

This initiative is part of a new announcement of the Public Selection Contest promoted by the CECIERJ Foundation, in partnership with the CEDERJ/UAB Consortium (Open University of Brazil) and public institutions of higher education in Rio de Janeiro.

The selection process is aimed at the second semester of 2025 and also includes other degrees, totaling 981 free spots at UERJ.

In addition to the convenience of studying from home, students have in-person support at 11 regional centers, expanding access to quality teacher training.

The cities included are: Angra dos Reis, Belford Roxo, Itaguaí, Magé, Nova Friburgo, Nova Iguaçu, Petrópolis, Resende, São Pedro da Aldeia, Teresópolis, and Três Rios.

Accessible and Quality Training

The proposal for the EAD Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy at UERJ is to train educators capable of acting in various school and social contexts, with a strong theoretical and practical foundation.

The course is free, recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), and follows the same excellence standards as the in-person modality.

The training provided prepares the student to work in basic education, in positions such as teacher, pedagogical coordinator, educational advisor, and in agencies that formulate public policies in the educational area.

The flexibility of the EAD modality makes the course even more attractive for those who already work or have a busy routine.

Distribution of Spots by Center

The 480 spots for the EAD Pedagogy course are distributed as follows:

Angra dos Reis: 35 spots
Belford Roxo: 40 spots
Itaguaí: 40 spots
Magé: 40 spots
Nova Friburgo: 35 spots
Nova Iguaçu: 40 spots
Petrópolis: 35 spots
Resende: 40 spots
São Pedro da Aldeia: 40 spots
Teresópolis: 30 spots
Três Rios: 35 spots

The in-person centers serve as support points for academic activities, teacher guidance, laboratories, libraries, and exam administration.

Who Can Enroll?

Candidates who have already completed or are about to complete high school by the registration date can participate in the selection process. The entrance exam also includes affirmative policies to ensure diversity and inclusion in higher education.

According to the announcement, there are quotas for black people, indigenous individuals, people with disabilities, students from public schools, public school teachers, and family members of public security professionals.

This policy seeks to promote equity of access to university education.

Admission Modalities: ENEM or CEDERJ Entrance Exam

Candidates can choose between two forms of admission:

Use ENEM scores: The editions of 2022, 2023, or 2024 are accepted. This option eliminates the need for taking exams, speeding up the process.
Take the CEDERJ Entrance Exam: For those who do not have ENEM scores or wish to improve their chances, the entrance exam includes objective tests and an essay, as described in the announcement available on the CECIERJ Foundation’s website.

The registration fee is R$ 89.90, and the deadline for registering is May 15, 2025.

Distance Education with In-Person Structure

Although it is an EAD course, students receive in-person support that goes far beyond digital platforms.

Each regional center offers:

Studying rooms and laboratories
Tutoring sessions
Meetings with teachers
Exam administration and practical activities
Access to physical libraries
