The Federal Institute of Minas Gerais (IFMG) – Campus Arcos has announced the opening of applications for its new class of the Lato Sensu Graduate Program in Teaching, a completely free course conducted in the distance education (EAD) modality.
This is a unique opportunity for teachers and education professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge without having to leave home.

Applications for the specialization will be open from January 28 to February 2, 2025 and can be made directly through the official IFMG Arcos website.

Two Emphases for Candidate Selection
The graduate program offered by IFMG aims primarily to qualify professionals to act more efficiently in the field of education. To this end, the institution provides two areas of specialization:
- Inclusive Education: aimed at teachers who wish to deepen their knowledge in adapting content and methodologies for students with special needs, promoting more accessible and quality education.
- Basic Education: directed at professionals who want to improve their pedagogical practices for teaching in elementary and high schools, enhancing student performance.
Both specializations are structured to provide a solid and updated training, aligned with Brazilian educational guidelines.
Distribution of Places and Selection Criteria
The public notice nº 52/2025 establishes the offer of 100 places, equally distributed between the two areas of specialization. The distribution of places follows quota criteria and broad competition:
- Broad Competition: 30 places
- Self-declared Black, Brown, or Indigenous Candidates: 10 places
- People with Disabilities: 5 places
- Teachers of Basic Education Active in Arcos-MG: 5 places
If the reserved places for specific categories are not filled, they will be redistributed to the broad competition.
The selection process will be conducted by order of application, prioritizing candidates who complete the registration first.
In case of a tie, age will be used as a tiebreaker criterion, favoring the older candidate.
Who Can Apply?
Professionals who have completed a higher education course in any field may participate in the selection process, provided that the diploma is recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
Additionally, to compete for reserved places, it will be necessary to present supporting documents, such as:
- Medical report for candidates with disabilities
- Proof of professional practice for basic education teachers from Arcos-MG
- Declaration of self-declaration for Black, Brown, or Indigenous candidates
Curriculum Matrix and Methodology of the Specialization
The specialization will have a total workload of 360 hours, distributed over two semesters.
The course will be taught 100% online, through IFMG’s learning platform, allowing students to organize their studies according to their professional and personal routines.
The curriculum matrix includes fundamental subjects for teacher training, such as:
- Fundamentals of Inclusive Education
- Educational Public Policies
- Active Teaching Methodologies
- Technology and Innovation in Teaching
- Psychology of Learning
- Educational and Inclusive Assessment
- Didactics and School Planning
Students will have access to specialized tutoring, in addition to interactive forums, video lessons, and digital teaching materials.
Publication of Results and Enrollment
The list of selected candidates will be published in stages, according to the schedule of the public notice.
The preliminary result will be released by February 7, 2025, and candidates will have a deadline to submit appeals.
The final version of the list will be published on February 9, 2025, and the approved candidates must enroll immediately to secure their spot.
Possibility of Extra Classes with Tuition Fees
In addition to the 100 free places, IFMG Arcos may open new paid classes for those who cannot secure a spot in the initial selection.
The paid course will have a total investment of R$ 1,800.00, payable in up to 12 installments of R$ 150.00 on a credit card.
