Microsoft Starts Adjustments to Dark Mode in Windows 11, Updating Dialog Boxes and Preparing New Features for Version 25H2.
Microsoft has begun updating the dark mode of Windows 11. The feature was introduced in Windows 10 in 2016, but it has always presented inconsistencies.
Many areas of the system still looked mixed, alternating between light and dark interfaces.
Now, the latest preview of the system shows that the company is finally making progress on this front.

Updated Dialog Boxes
The Windows observer known as Phantomofearth identified significant changes.
The dialog boxes used to copy or delete files appear in dark mode for the first time.
Previously, these prompts maintained a light appearance, undermining the interface’s intent.
Despite this, the transition is still not complete, as the buttons remain light, contrasting with the darkened background.
What May Be Ahead
Even without an official announcement, tests indicate that a major update may be on the way.
The expectation is that Microsoft will implement these changes in version 25H2, anticipated for this year.
Features like Control Panel, Properties window, and Run Prompt remain limited to light mode, underscoring the need for broader adjustments.
History of Delays
The company’s history does not inspire confidence. In Windows 10, dark mode did not fully arrive in File Explorer until years after its launch.
In contrast, Apple has managed to offer a more consistent experience on macOS since 2018, when it launched Mojave with full support for the feature.
Additional News
In addition, Microsoft is working on a redesign of Liquid Glass, with a greater focus on transparency and visual effects.
The package of changes reinforces the company’s attempt to deliver a more uniform visual experience, even though the process is happening at a slow pace.
