After Commissioning Operations, the FPSO Anita Garibaldi Finally Left the Jurong Shipyard Bound for the Campos Basin in Rio de Janeiro for the Marlim Field Revitalization Project.
FPSO Anita Garibaldi, Petrobras’ new platform ship, left the Jurong shipyard in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, on Wednesday, (04/26), heading to the Marlim field in the Campos basin. One of its goals is to replace old platforms and halve greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The platform ship will replace five old platforms and connect 43 wells in Marlim, increasing oil production to 150,000 barrels per day (bpd). The aim is to revitalize the Campos basin, which was once the state-owned company’s main producing basin but has lost ground to the giant pre-salt reservoirs.
Revitalization of the Campos Basin Is One of the Largest Projects in This Segment in the Offshore Industry Worldwide
The Anita Garibaldi platform ship is a Floating Production Storage and Offloading Unit (FPSO), chartered by Petrobras for 25 years, and was built by Modec.
It will connect to 43 wells in Marlim, replacing five old platforms and halving the greenhouse gas emissions from the field.

The Anita Garibaldi platform ship has a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil, with a daily production of 80,000 barrels.
In addition, it will add 7 million cubic meters of natural gas to the market, which will be dispatched through a gas pipeline.
The revitalization of the Campos basin is considered by Petrobras to be the largest project in the offshore industry worldwide.
The region, discovered in the 1980s, was once the state-owned company’s main producing basin but lost ground to the giant pre-salt reservoirs, the discovery of which coincided with the beginning of the decline in production from the basin.
Production in the Campos basin is expected to reach 900,000 boe/d by 2027, three times more than would be possible if the state-owned company had not replaced the old systems with new ones.
Decommissioning Project for Old Structures in the Campos Basin
The Campos basin is undergoing an intense and billion-dollar decommissioning process of old structures to try to elevate the production of mature fields.
About 100 producing wells will be connected to the new units over the next five years.
In addition to Anita Garibaldi and Ana Nery, the third unit planned is the platform ship Maria Quitéria, in the Jubarte field, in the Whale Park complex, in the Espírito Santo portion of the Campos basin, with a capacity of 100,000 bpd of oil.
Get to Know the FPSO Anita Garibaldi
The operation of the FPSO is part of the revitalization project for the Marlim cluster. The field is operated by Petrobras and is located in the Campos Basin, north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, 150 km off the coast. The oil wells are at a water depth of approximately 670 m.
MODEC was responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, chartering, mobilization, and operations of the FPSO, including topsides processing equipment as well as marine and hull systems.
