with the big tree of renewables, Gerdau announces that it will leave European and Asian countries, keeping only investments in American factories
With its factories valued at more than R$60 billion, Gerdau wants around 20% of its revenues to come from businesses other than steel production, but the company has been innovating for that. According to executive Gustavo Weneck, 47 years old, the first to manage the company without being from the family that gave the company its name, the group has a great fear of disappearing, like many other companies over 120 years old that are left behind.
The steel company intends to leave European and Asian countries – Werneck stated that another company strategy is to no longer operate in European and Asian countries and to focus 100% on American countries, creating niche businesses, such as the Gerdau Summit, created in 2017, alongside the Japanese company Sumitomo, which produces steel parts for the wind power industry. In this case, the process involves classic production, however, the owner of several factories is advancing in other sectors that are unimaginable for a company that grew up in the art of forging steel.
Gerdau created a G2Base construtech, which operates in the foundations of works. Before, the company supplied only the steel to be poured, and now it sells the entire service with the foundation ready. Werneck claims that the customer does not need to run after several suppliers, as Gerdau delivers everything complete.
