Amazon Invested In 26 New Renewable Energy Projects, Now Adding Up To 6.5 GW Of Production Capacity
Amazon, the American multinational technology company, announced 26 new renewable energy projects, which include wind and solar energy. The new projects will make the company the largest buyer of renewable energy in history, surpassing Google. The new projects have a generation capacity of 3.4 gigawatts (GW), raising its total renewable energy investment in 2020 to 35 projects, which add up to over 4 GW of capacity – the largest corporate investment in renewable energy in a single year.

The company’s energy generation capacity can supply 1.7 million homes in the United States for a year. The projects will provide renewable energy to Amazon’s corporate offices, distribution centers, and to service providers supporting millions of customers worldwide.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.
Amazon’s goal is to consume 100% renewable energy and achieve net-zero carbon emissions in its operations by 2040. Part of this commitment is to supply the company’s infrastructure with energy entirely from renewable sources, a milestone that is expected to be reached by 2025, five years ahead of the initial target, which was set for 2030.
The company currently has 127 renewable energy projects worldwide, including 59 utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar and wind) and 68 solar rooftops in supply centers and distribution centers.
